What’s the Roo?

The Roo refers to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, located in the southeastern tip of Mexico. Home of the Mayan Riviera, the Roo includes the popular beach towns of Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

The Roo is one of the fastest growing areas in the world. In 2006, the Guinness Book of World Records named Playa del Carmen as the fastest growing town in the world. Despite this, the area lacks a true metropolitan guide, with searchable, up to date listings and reviews.

So in January of 2007, we at In the Roo set out to fill this void. It is a daunting task. Cancun and Playa del Carmen are teeming with hundreds of restaurants, bars, and internet cafes. While we hope to eventually cover all of the Roo, we are starting with the place we know best. Playa del Carmen is where we have made our home since 2005.
