    Default Ferry to Cozumel

    Just an update

(source Notimex)

Both ferry companies raised their rates, from 120 to 140 pesos as of Monday October 1st.

    Default That's a

real bummer! I hope they have "special" rates for commuters that use the ferry daily.

They do, if you live in Cozumel you pay less but the Local rates went up in the same percentage

sorry to bump this but is it for a round-way or only one way at this fare?

thanks, I just happened to talk about PDC to my boss whom I found out will also be going to Cancun and PDC soon, she told me that she heard the sea was rough and some people who often feel seasick should not use the ferry, is that true?

Default In the past 12 years I have used the

ferry between Playa and Cozumel and never been sick. I've taken the ferry to and from Isla Mujeres and never been sick. My advice is: when you get on the ferry to Cozumel make you sure you sit outside on the back of the boat. That way you can keep your eye on the horizon and have lots of fresh air. Just don't take the seat right next to the side of the boat, you'll wear the spray all the way to and from Cozumel.

If you are prone to getting seasick, you probably will. If not; you won't. The ferry can be very interesting! Sometimes they have bands playing, sometimes you will sit beside guys who are taking roosters over to the cock fights in Cozumel or coming home. Lots of things to be aware of other than the ride. Constructions workers with their tools of their trade: electric drills, tool boxes, their clothes in a duffle bag and having a beer, without a care in the world.

Personally, I would never sit inside. There are lots of seats inside, with closed circuit TV with infomercials running and movies. In the bottom of the boat (OK, I don't know what the correct term is) you embark on one floor and it is one floor below, there is a stand that sells t-shirts and other touristy items.

Actually, if you walk down to the pier (or take a look from your hotel if you are on the water) and have a look you can tell if the water is rough. If the weather is too bad, the pier is closed and the ferries don't run.

We've always enjoyed our trips on the ferry, but I've never been inside so I can't help you there.

Boy I remember when it was 100 pesos round trip. It was well worth the trip then.

Always sit outside on the top...and go ahead and take a sea sick pill if you are worried about it. The pill won't ruin your day, but a case of sea-sickness will totally ruin the whole day.

It may look calm from the shore, but once it gets into deeper water, it gets a little more rougher. The worst part is when it is docked..it will rock.
I'll take 2, please. Please bring them to me over here.

there were many people turning green at the gills on my ferry ride back to Playa.

the nice lady who worked there passed out barf bags and....

interestingly enough, paper towels blotted with rubbing alcohol.

I guess the smell of it will help with seasickness.

I was fine, ate my last churro and took a nap. Loved the rock n roll.

You are so right Sunbaby...I get sea sick so a little pill it is...no point in wasting a whole day being sea sick...I still need to be outside with the wind on my face though. We've been on the ferry when the ride was really smooth and also really rough. My experience is that if you get sea sick take that pill.
Our path is full of bumps and turns and far from complete-We like it

Yep, Mav, I can see where as how seasickness would be a major concern in your part of the world.

Default I know there are two different

ferry companies that run between Playa and Cozumel: one is UltraMar but I cannot remember the other one. We usually just buy one-way tickets, check the schedule for the day and purchase our tickets on our way back. The schedule seems to change daily, so make sure you check.

    Default Actually the alcohol dries

the saliva glands as you breathe it and makes you less prone to vomiting 9Sailors trick). I like to use gin--but then I think gin is a cure all for everything
