If you want to try something new...
...take the bus or colectivo into Tulum pueblo and catch a taxi to La Zebra (about $5-$6) and hang out there for awhile. Time it for lunch and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the food and the atmosphere. It's a nice relaxing place to hang out. On Sundays, they have an all day BBQ with live salsa music and a beach party beginning at 7pm and lasting til 11pm.
If you walk north of La Zebra, Ana & Jose's is another great stop to grab a drink or get something to eat. They have a number of loungers on the beach that should be free while consuming beverages. By the way, they only serve canned beer on the beach or deck. Be sure to check out their entire facility... it's beautiful!
Few doors north is a new bar/restaurant that should now be open. The owners told me it would be called Puerto Cielo. They have a tiny pool lounge area close to the beach nestled in the palms. You can't actually see the pool from the beach because it's on higher ground but you should be able to see people sitting around it. The place wasn't open yet when I was there but the owners gave me the grand tour... it's also a small hotel.
