The scary thing is that this is the reduced rate. Do you run the a/c less after September? Our realtor said they run it less in winter. Is there really such a thing with warm tropical year-round weather? I know there are occassional cool fronts that come. We were there in April and had a few days of cool weather. Our driver at the airport was wearing a jacket.
I heard from a local in our neighborhood that the rates north of downtown (where we will live) are cheaper, but I'm not sure if that is true. I knew electricity was more expensive in PDC than the US, but Toni & Cheri's bill is more than I had previously heard. Has anyone checked into solar power or wind power? This has been something I've been thinking about, but I didn't know where we'd put it if we had a palapa or how readily available the items were in QRoo. I found a company that sells solar systems last night that sticks out above the palapa. I contacted them about their systems and prices at
Playa Systems - Alternative Energy for the Riviera Maya. I also read a post that Home Depot has solar hot water tanks and Costco has small wind generators and solar panels. Has anyone checked into those options? I am also curious about how hurricane proof those items are and I doubt those options are cheap either, but might save in the long run. I've also heard that the salt air causes the a/c units to be replaced every few years too and that it is hard on satellites. Anyone had issues with that or know how that might impact solar panels?
