What did you think of the Gran Porto Real? We're looking again at AI's because my brother and his wife want us to join them in Playa for their 20th next Fall. I really, really wanted to do non-AI, but since it's their anniversary ... Anyway, I am helping out to find a place. Also considering Grand Coco Bay or Riu Yucatan.

Is Shangri la still open?

Riu Palace Mexico -my favorite before beach erosion, been several times
Royal Hideaway-had to do it at least once, best food ever
Barcelo Maya Beach- was impressed for a first visit
Fun resorts
Viva Maya- great place taking teenagers growing up, been about 6x there
Grand Coco Beach-loved location more then resort, beach was great
Allegro Playacar-spent many vacations there with the kiddos growing up
Viva Azteca-too quiet for me plus no swim-up pool bar but one close

Had a lot of fun times in Cancun too before switching to Playa !!

I've never stayed in Catalonia RM but have used "day pass" option many times and truly enjoyed the experience. "La Creperie" is to die for...

2001 - Barcelo Maya Beach - Only trip to Mexico with kids and everyone had
a great time.

2003 - Moon Palace - Fantastic resort but very big. Also, more money than
we like to pay nowadays.

2006, 2007 - Marival Resort, Nuevo Vallarta - We loved this smaller resort and
loved the town of PV. Will go
back, but we needed a change.

2008 - Sandos Playacar - We liked this resort very much, also. Only resort in
Playacar with any beach worth a darn. Very small
and has a lot of kids, but not a lot on the beach
and none at the adult pool. We may be going back
next year with a few more people.

I didn't realize you could do that. I'll be there 8/3 - 8/10. How long are you guys staying in Playa?

We are leaving on the fifth of August. Yeah, i just found this out too that you can do it. Costs anywhere from $50 -$100 for the day. But of course that includes breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner, and all the booze ya want. I am sure i will make it worth my while
