1. Royal Hideaway (been there 3x) - one word: AMAZING
2. Iberostar Grand (1x, returning in 37 days) - close to AMAZING
3. Iberostar Lindo (1x, returning in July) - great for the family
4. Riu Palace Mexico - not bad, just not good enough to return
5. Occidental Grand Xcaret - okay, wouldn't return

Secrets Capri...adults only....!
All ala carte restaurants for dinner! Beef was fantastic! Seafood to die for! We like an early dinner, so being first in line was a nightly thing....and we got to sit on the outdoor balconies/patios and watched/listened as the sea came in! This was Feb 2006, after Wilma hit, and travel was down, so we caught a deal with Apple, did it with a 6 Apple Square Deal.....oh so sweet, and probably never again!

Hmmm, I imagine in 15 years there will be someplace even better than the Grand.

I am trying to decide WHERE to go to in June (with Hubby and kiddo) - so adults only resorts are out !

I am thinking.
The new Princess resort if I can get a swim up room
The new part of the Barcelo (The Palace)
or even the old Barcelo
or Back to my old favorite the Catalonia !!!
or some place else ?????
Dang - I hate when I cant decide.

Depends on what new things you want to experience and what your expectations are. I'm inclined to break the mold of the AI's next time and hit a downtown hotel. Just a thought....

We have done that before and really enjoyed it. In fact we looked at some condos this time, but in the end I dont want to cook or clean up ! But we decided that when we have our kiddo with us that we would go AI's - cause she can hook up with some kids.
(and you see the same ones day after day so it is easier for her to make some friends)

When it is just us - we would stay in town.

Wise thinking - we looked at a condo too (due to cost) but also decided we'd rather not cook, buy groceries, etc... Was largely oblivious to the many fine hotels in town until after we booked, and after seeing some in person, we are inclined to go this route next time. The AI/Sandos was great in that there was nothing we needed to wworry about with food, drink, entertainment, beach, etc... All there.

Although we have stayed and enjoyed many AI's in the past, The extra cost of staying at one does not pay-off for us. We can stay in a hotel, eat out, drink for a week for the same price for 4 days at an AI. We don't drink alot, and never during the day. If we did, then the AI would be our best bet.

Now, on the other hand, An AI anywhere but in the Riviera would work for us, like on another Carribean Island...Just until we became more familiar with the area. And we would be more adventurous to leave the property and try a few things. With the help of so many forums to different travel destinations, I doubt that we would be as paranoid about another country like we were when we first started going to Mexico. Back in the early days, There was no-way we would eat or drink anything outside of our AI. Now we have access to alot of info thanks to the internet.
