Absolutely love the Aventura Spa Palace! Roy and I stayed here our first time in Mexico and it is now where we stay when we travel with my in-laws. They spoil you rotten!!!! Because they offer a "Palace Passport," tours are included (which can be a huge savings for a group or those who always need to be on the go.) Even though it has no beach on site, the lagoon and pool are very fantastic and getting a beach fix is convenient enough. I could go on and on but then it would be a trip report

Royal PDC! It was awesome! Phenomenal food, service, rooms, 24 hr self serve bar, big bottles of booze in mini bar.....Loved it! Too cheap to stay there again though!

Iberostar - we stayed there on our honeymoon in 2005 and loved it. The beach was beautifull and the food was to die for and close to town. If we come back with our son we will def. be staying there as all the kids looked to be having so muck ful with all the activities.

The only one I've stayed at is the Royal PDC...it was a wonderful vacation. Got a bit tired of the food after a few days, but 5th Ave is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

The last AI we stayed at was the Reef Club Playacar. That was also the year we discovered 5th.......

Ever since that we would never ever consider a big AI resort in Playa or anywhere in the Mexican Riviera. So to much to do and see to be i an "American Style Resort".

IMHO

I have to agree with you. The food was great, they even served steak quite a bit, and loved the Jacuzzi in the room. We took the tour to Isla Mujeres.

Iberostar Grand was fabulous. Too bad the price doubled.

I have to agree the Catalonia was right up there for me too. The people traveling with me didn't like it so much. But I thought it was wonderful. Would go back any time (heck, I'd go back anywhere at any time)

I do have to say that the best AI was the Dreams in Puerto Vallarta (I know it's not PDC) we went too! There was nothing about it that couldn't be loved! And the 24 hours of room service came in quite handy at times.

I've stayed at the following:

Riu Playacar
Viva Maya
Riu Palace

The Palace was very nice and the food was really great, but the pool area was dead. So we ended up hanging out at the Riu Yucatan's pool area and met some really cool people that we still keep in touch with today.

The Viva Maya was fine. We got a great deal of $60 pp pn All - Inclusive. But it was several notches down in the food catagory. But that was OK. We went in to town to eat and just used the hotel for drinks.......and boy did we.

The Riu Playacar was great. The smallest of the Riu's but still very nice with a very fun crowd. I would go back here or the Yucatan without hesitation.

That being said, I would still like to stay in town a few nights next trip down. I've had lunch at the Playa Maya and walked throught the hotel. I would also like to check out Luna Blue, Fusion, and a few others.
