Thanks for joining us!
Even though I lived here for 2.5 years, I'm always jealous of people like you who have been coming to Playa long before I ever even heard about it. Have any photos of Playa from 10 years ago that you could share with us? A longtime resident of Playa, Barefoot Jerry, may he rest in peace, used to share his early Playa photos with me. It was always fun to see the "sleepy fishing village" photos. |

My first Trip to Playa was in 1996. We stayed at Puerto Aventuras in a chac hal al condo. We loved it. I have to look for the old pictures and scan them. It was a much different place then.
307 was just starting construction. There was a military stop at Morales. Playa was 1 Block by maybe 10. There were very few cars and a lot of poverty. Now, many are driving and working! What a difference 12 years makes. I do miss the smell of fires burning when you drive down the highway. We have spent most of our time in resorts because of the amenities taking day trips. Now we are going to scout out some hotels in Playa to stay. I also want to take a trip down to Mahahual. Maybe we can get the same feel as the way playa was. |

Welcome to the forum!
My husband and I unfortunately did our first two trips to Quintana Roo at Cozumel all inclusives in 1993 and 1995. Then, NO MAS. PcC independent is the way to go. I love the beauty of the north end development, but I'm prone to bouts of sentimental melancholy. Weird I know, but I fondly remember walking to our hotel (Amanaceer that was at 24th or 26th) on dirt streets. For us, that is a way to escape and truly vacation for a week...change the elemental basic stuff. |
