Hello from Alabama!
First of all, thanks to "G" for turning me on to this great board. I've been lurking for the last few days so I decided to go ahead and introduce myself.
I've been travelling to PDC since about '96. It's still a beautiful and special place, although I really don't like to see all the Starbucks, BK's, and other chains that seem to be sprouting up all over town. I am "in the Roo" at least once a year, usually for extended periods of time. My wife's from Chetumal and most of her family's still there, so that's where we usually spend most of her time. It's a great city too, although very different from Playa. We have two kids- boy, 15 and girl, 8. When we're in Playa, we don't usually head to the touristy places. That's just how we roll. We get up early and stay active all day, so usually by nightime I'm dead tired. Or, maybe I'm getting old! I have never been to the Beer Bucket, Tequila Barrel, etc. and I really don't feel like I've missed out on anything- though I'll try anything once! I am not a "peep" kind of a guy; although I don't avoid my fellow countrymen when I'm in Mexico, I usually don't seek them out, either.  We will be in QR from June 2 through the rest of the summer. We'll be in and out of Playa during that time, maybe we'll run into some of you there!

We've never been as far as Chetumal, but I hope to one day. Maybe we'll make it down there this trip if we do our trip back to Palenque and Agua Azul...we'll see. We will be in Playa July 1-31st....perhaps you can break you usual routine and make it to a peep meet or two? Would love to meet ya'.  So far I think we are having one tentatively on the 28th, but again I'll be there all month with my hubby and two kids (12 and 13), and we also try to keep it pretty 'non-touristy' ourselves.

Ginger, you should come down to Chetumal if you get a chance. I think y'all would realy enjoy it. It's not a beach town, per se, but it's on a beautiful bay and it has one of the nicest boardwalks (on the Bay of Chetumal) I have seen anywhere. There's a lot of great places to eat, too, and a lot of good shopping and casinos across the border in Belize. Let me know if you can make it down this summer and we'll show y'all around. I will be "in the Roo" during most of the month of June, possibly part of July. As far as peep meets, I wouldn't mind coming to one. My wife said the other day we should go because we don't get out enough. It's just tough with kids and all, as I'm sure you know. The kids are getting bigger now, though! We would love to meet you and your family. Stay in touch!
