My thanks to TAPPY for sending me on over to this website! Mike and I will be in Playa May 29th through June 2nd. We haven't been there in about 1-1/2 years, so it will be very interesting to see how much has changed.

Thanks for the nice welcome! I wish we were there a little bit later too, but I booked this trip so we could hook up with some cruise friends from Glendale CA.

Regarding the slideshows, don't know if you've looked lately, but Mike added a bunch of new ones. We did a road trip through the Southwest in February, plus he FINALLY finished up some from Los Angeles.

Thanks, Dan-O! Where in Alabama? We just drove through there on our way back from Memphis.... Drove right by Talladega. Didn't know that you could actually see the track from the Interstate.

We're between Talladega and Huntsville, about 1 hour from each city. Being so close to Talladega you would think I like NASCAR, but I don't. I've never been to the races in my life

Thanks for the welcome! If you're familiar with Tampa, we live on a canal just off the Hillsborough River across from the Lowry Park boat ramp ~ in Old Seminole Heights by Florida and Sligh Avenues. I like Tampa too. I'm a native of St. Petersburg, but have lived in Sacramento California and Suffield Connecticut before returning "home."

I'm not particularly interested iin NASCAR. My husband Mike has been a fan for years, but it's losing its appeal for him. He'd still like to go to a race at Talladega though. We were to one at Daytona. Had to stand up for the ENTIRE race! Not my cup of tea.

Hey Joanie, I don't guess you've heard any news about the Tampa-Progreso/Cancun ferry, have you? Man, that ferry would be a godsend, wouldn't it? As far as I know, it only operated for 1 season and there are no plans to start back up.

It was closed due to environmental issues, from what I recall. We would love for it to start back up... we'd definitely use it.

John, as I recall, the ferry got stuck on the ocean's bottom just outside of Cancun. Supposedly, the Mexican government was going to dredge the bottom and they were going to start up again whenever they finished. And that's how the situation has stayed, as far as I know. I read from folks who used the ferry during it's operation and their comments were very favorable.

Mike and I would LOVE it if the ferry started back up again! We'd most definitely use the service. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time in the near future. We can't even get a direct flight out of Tampa to Cancun.
