Default Hello from Tyler

That is in Texas. My family and I are heading down to Myakoba for a work conference. Tough life I know, My wife is a radiologist so we are going with for only airfare. Thanx for the worryfree tip. Looks like lots of good information here. How far is Myakoba from Playa del Carmen. The kids and I will want to get out while the wife is in seminars. Are there taxi's or should we rent a car.

Matt and Lisa

First off, welcome to the Roo. Hope you like it here!

I've been meaning to get some of the resorts North of Playa on our map for a while. From memory, it's about 15-20 minutes by car. Check with your resort to see if they offer a shuttle into town. Otherwise, you can catch a colectivo on the highway to and from Playa. Cabs and car rentals will probably cost you about the same... depends how much freedom you want.

Default Fairmont Mayakoba

Hola Matt & Lisa. Welcome to the forum!

The Fairmont Mayakoba is located about 5 miles north of downtown Playa del Carmen. With all the traffic lights and speed bumps, it could take 15-20 minutes to get into town.

The Mayakoba looks like a fabulous resort. But I hope that your meals are covered as well! I've heard that the restaurants at the resort are quite pricey!

Enjoy, and please come back to let us know how you like the resort and Playa!

Thank you. Only meals that are covered are for my wife, so the kids and I will be fending for ourselves. Is it possible to walk on the beach into Play del Carmen? 10 and 13 year old kids don't want them to get too cranky. I just saw the VIP card, that looks like a good deal for us. Can you recommend a car rental company. Just need a small basic car with a/c of course.

Default Executive Car Rentals

I'm not sure if you can walk all the way. There may be one or more rocky areas along the way. But regardless, the walk would take you several hours -- something that would surely cause most tweens to become cranky.

We've used Executive Car Rentals several times over the past few years (including twice just last week), and we've always had great experiences with them. You can get significantly cheaper rates if you book online.

Looks like I will have to bite the bullet and rent a car. With the meals prices so high (for us anyway) at the Myakoba, I'll probably come out ahead. Looking forward to trying out some local places. Looks like my kids will like the 5th area. Your site is very informative. I hope to reserve a atv tour for us and maybe the zipline.
