Jamkats,
Thanks for all the information! Judy you too!
I was going to use a lawyer but now I feel confident I can do this on my own.

Kathy that letter rocks! I really appreciate it.

I think I will wait till the end of the month when I get my next CFE bill. Better to have it all there then have to start new.

Thanks thanks thanks!!

7) Payment of somewhere around $400MN. Migra will give you a piece of paper with the payment information. Take this to the bank (HSBC is on Juarez). Wait in line for an executive. He will take this paper and make another paper for you. Either go to the front of the line or wait in line and hand that paper to the teller. They will take your money and give you (yet) another paper. Get 3 copies of this PLUS the original (I sweetalked HSBC to do this for me).
Just a suggestion, don't go to HSBC! We went there first and were told we had to wait in one line and then another, the first long and not moving at all! So we left and went to Banorte in Plaza Pelicanos, a little longer distance from migracion, but it took us 5 minutes! We went in, paid the teller, walked across the street to Mita and got copies of the reciept (3 pesos for 6 copies).

Sharon and I just renewed our FM3s in PDC. No problems at all with the local immigration office. We did it ourselves without the help of a lawyer. On the first trip we picked up the application forms. We went back a couple days later and turned them in. We waited five weeks then went back and our FM3s were ready. Just a short trip to the bank to pay our fees and then a two hour wait to pickup the FM3s. Altogether, maybe five hours of our time.

BTW - we bank at Scotiabank and have found the office on 5th and Juarez across from the bus station to be much more helpful than the one on Constituyentes. Michel is the only bank officer in the branch and he has good English skills and a friendly smile.

Renewing our FM3s took 5-1/2 months for mine & 6 months for Tony's. Our accountant did it, and it was during all the crossover time when Playa was having so many problems, so ours were handled in Cancun. Now we have to do the whole thing again in only 6 months!!

Yes, you must have it stamped within 30 or 60 days of receiving it. There is an immigration office in Terminal 3...go to the ticket counters and you will see a restrauant called BerryHill...just a little past BerryHill you will see a hallway to the right. Immigration is down the hallway on your right.

that may only be necessary for the FM3s acquired in the States
An FM3 acquired here is already authorized, right?

Oh good question. I don't really know but your thought process makes sense.

I know that we had ours stamped as we came through immigration in the airport before getting luggage. Before we left the Cancun airport, we had to go back through immigration (down the hall I was speaking about) to have them restamp our FM3's...Apparently you have to do this each time you leave and return to Mexico.

Marissa, if you received your FM3 from immigration in Mexico, you should already have all the authorization you need.

For the record, Babaloo is right in stating that if anyone is issued an FM3 from an immigration office outside of Mexico, you need to get it authorized shortly after you arrive in Mexico. I am not sure of that process, but I believe that it needs to be taken care of at an actual immigration office, and not the airport. Again, this does not apply to you, Marissa.

Please note... once you have an FM3, you will need to get it stamped when you leave Mexico and again when you return. You also need to fill out a form at the immigration office in the airport before you check in for your flight. This form is similar in nature to an FMT (tourist visa). You get two copies of this form, one you hand to the airline gate agent when you check in for your flight leaving Mexico. The other, you hand to the immigration agent with your FM3 when you return to Mexico, after which the agent will once again stamp your FM3.

If that's confusing, I'm sure Libby will chime in with something easier to understand. She's good like that.

You can get it stamped at the airport through immigration or at the border. We had ours stamped at the airport and my business partner actually just flew into Cancun just to get hers stamped then turned around and took the next flight out back to Dallas. This was just in June.
