Oh, how I wish you could do Playacar Phase II. I know of a beautiful Condo, and the owner could probably cut you a real good deal.

Thanks so much for trying, Sue! Yes, finding long term rentals can be difficult here. There's just more money to be had (potentially) with vacation rentals.

We went by the area that their long-term rentals are concentrated in, and saw no For Rent signs. Haven't actually checked in with their office yet though.

If we didn't have to worry about internet access, we'd certainly have more options open to us. We are urbanites through and through, and there was a time that we would have scoffed at the idea of living in Playacar. But lately the allure of that great bicycle path, the more modern homes, and the potential of having swimming pool access (for less than we're paying now) has been great.

You should come join life over on my side of the highway. Nice, quiet neighborhood, lots of telephone lines (no cable) and all the necessities (grocery, mall, etc.) within walking distance. Let me know if you would consider it, as I always see For Rent signs around.

Default Long Term Rental Listings

I found a few long term rentals listed HERE. The 1st one looks interesting.

Hi kids! It's been a while since I've popped in here -- good to see everyone chugging along!

That apartment in the RDS is Jana's, I think (she's right next door to us and I recognize her pool view). Half of that building is still being rented long term by the developer/owner (the half that hasn't been sold as condos), but I'm not sure about the internet access yet. I had my laptop with me last trip down and I could see that somebody had a wireless network running, but I couldn't figure out whether it was coming from wifi or a cable provider (maybe John can tell me if there's a way to determine the source of a wireless network --?)

Anyway, I can certainly put you in touch with the landlord of you are interested. I would LOVE to have you guys as neighbors -- even if we would only be neighbors a few weeks of the year. I *LOVE* your walking tour photos and your Mexican-urbanite view of life in Playa!

Love ya -- I'll try to visit more often!

PDC Management offers long term rentals. You can look at the listings there and if anything interests you let us know and we can help you.

Thank you all for your suggestions! They've been much appreciated. After looking around a bit, I think we've come to the conclusion that we already have the best we're gonna get at our pricepoint. Although our place has quite a few problems (namely our landlord), it also has a lot of great things going for it -- like our huge kitchen (a rare find here), a true dining room (though underutilized), and decent outdoor space great for entertaining. So, for now we're staying put. But we'll keep our eyes and ears open, just in case. Thanks, guys!
