Default Profeco

Consumer laws in Mexico according to Profeco (Consumer´s righths bureau) states that the products and items in restaurnts have to have a full price displayed on the menu
A restaurant is not allowed to put the Tax at the end of the bill, on top of the price that was listed in the menu, that is against the law
You have to always ask for a written bill, by law they have to provide one and if a Restaurant is neglecting to do that they are breaking the law.
I know no one wants to be spending precious vacation time making a denuncia in a formal Profeco office unless it is for more money but if you don´t report things nothing can be done to correct them.
The office for PROFECO is in Plaza Papagayo behind the Dominos pizza on Avenida Juarez close to the Highway they can only help you if you have reciepts from the business breaking the law
they have a yahoo account that they were kind enough to share to write complains about specific establishments that incurr in illegal behaviour
profeco_solidaridad at yahoo dot com dot mx
They have bilingual staff and at a national level multilingual staff the local number is 8794484 The Delegate Name is Victor Soza, and in my opinion they are a super professional and efficient office I was really impressed with their help for a foreigner that went to them last month, and took me as translator.

Thanks, Claudia! That's good information to know.

Where is that pool, by the way? I know you said past the University, but I don't even know where that is! Is the Centro Deportivo the place in the Ejido with the tennis courts and running track?

The pool is a bit far, but well worth the drive if you really want to take swimming seriously. You drive North on the highway and when you reach the Crystal Coca cola factory you make a u turn and stay on your right, You will see a big sign saying UTC Universidad Tecnológica and turn right, you follow that road, to the end pass the University on your right and the street bends left, you will see a mesh wall and that is the centro deportivo de la riviera Maya, it has a baseball stadium, basketball courts, soccer field and at the end there is the pool.
You have to stop by a pink building to check on their class schedule and sign in the first time you go.
I took Jan rollerblading there once, and it was a lot of fun, but since there are no homes or offices around I felt a bit isolated in case something would happen. There is no public transportation to the center and that makes it hard for everyone to enjoy it.
