Default Looking to hire a local in Playa

I am looking to hire a local person from Playa for new Property Management Company. IF interested, please PM me for details. I need a self-starter and go-getter and prefer some knowledge of marketing and or leasing or a VAST knowledge of the various markets in the Riviera Maya area.

Jana's not Mexican. Kami will have to have 9 Mexican nationals on the books before she can hire one foreigner.

Property Management in this area, is VERY high profile and very competitive. She has to play it clean in that line of work!

Yes! The boat is being re-fiberglassed and a new console is being installed. We just put an almost new 175 hp Yamaha on the back. Should be in the water in under a month. Then we need to fit it with some sort of cover, have cushions made etc... Our captain is managing the whole build out and is very pleased so far. Still working on where to launch it from. That's the tough part.

I REALLY need to hire someone. IF anyone hears of anyone (Mexican National) needing a job, please let me know. I'm trying to get there earlier but I just don't think that I can.

I don't have anyone to recommend to you, Kami. However, in case you are not already aware, I want to let you know that Mexican labor laws favor the employee. It is extremely difficult to fire an employee here. Also, I have heard of employees quitting and then claiming that their employer has not paid them for months of work. Unless the employer has an accepted proof of payment and of the termination, they have to pay. I've even heard of a company in Cancun whose employee quit and claimed that the owner had promised him partial ownership. The case actually dragged on for years, I believe. The owner eventually lost everything and left the country. Of course, that whole story is secondhand. But I think you get my point.

Talk to your lawyer. But I recommend you at least do the following. 1) Have the employee sign a contract explaining the terms of employment. Expire the contract after 3 months or so. After 3 months, do another contract. 2) Have the employee sign for receipt of every single payroll.

Good luck to you!

Solid advise!! Employees accrue time that must be compensated as severance if you need to terminate their employment for any reason. For example, if I had to fire our housekeeper, I would owe her $3700 usd in severance, even if I set her up with a new job the next day.

Another way to go.....perhaps not the nicest route....is to have the employee sign a letter of resignation that you can date later should you need to terminate him/her or they "leave" for some reason. If an employee quits, or does not turn up for 14 working days (don't quote me on that #) you do not have to pay severance.

Ah yes, I forgot about that option. It may not sound nice to us, but it seems to be fairly common policy here.

Scary! WOW!
I sent an email over to my attorney last night and asked about the various laws. He did say that there are many labor laws but he would help me get through them but I did not realize that the termination process could be so one-sided. Thanks for the heads-up.
