Default Optometrist in Playa del Carmen?

So, lately I've been noticing my vision going blurry whilst staring at the computer screen. It's probably a sign that I should just get myself to the beach, but unfortunately I have these pesky bills to pay. So, anyone know of an optometrist in Playa? I'll take suggestions in surrounding towns as well. Gracias!

Default how weird....

i'm feeling the same way today, maybe it's catching in our 'hood! p went to the guy on 30th Ave. between something like 34th and I dunno, 28th or so? It's a small white shop on the west side of the street. Anyway the dude is very friendly and he seems smart, and the prices are cheap. I'm going this afternoon I think....

It must be all the dust! Great to see you on here, Rachel! Welcome to In the Roo! I'll definitely go check out your guy. Did P. order new contact lenses? I'd be curious to find out how contact lens prices are here. I hear that frames are very expensive.

Libby, Have you noticed that the printing is getting smaller on packages or newspapers? If so, you may just need readers. Go to Walmart or where ever they sell the reading glasses, try a few different strengths and then read something small till you can see clearly. I use them for my computer too. If that does the trick, try to find some at a dollar store and buy a few pairs. The ones at walmart can be expensive but under 100.00 pesos.

You know, I haven't noticed a problem with reading anything in print. I only have this problem with my computer monitor. It could also be caused by dehydration. I have this tendency of getting really wrapped up in my work and forgetting to eat or drink. And you really have to drink a lot more here.

Do you remember seeing the reading glasses at the Walmart in Playa? I know I was surprised to see them in one of the stores a few months ago, but can't remember which one now. I'm willing to give it a shot.

Walmart definitely has them, back near the pharmacy. Sam's has them in packages of 3 up by the DVDs. Once you start looking for granny glasses, you'll notice they sell them just about everywhere, believe me.

Default reading glasses

Sam's Club has a new shipment in and they have all strengths. I use the 1.25 (weakest) and I found the thin ones that I like (I can look over the glasses to look far) at Chedraui in the Las Americas Mall.

Last year I was reading fine, this year I can't read emails without glasses. It hits a lot of people around age 40.

The Optomotrist on 30th between 32 and 34 has affordable and basic frames. I checked many places and they had the best value. I also hit the dollar stores in the States and load up on reading glasses (and sunglasses) when I can.

Hey, who ya calling "around age 40"?! I still got 5 1/2 years left 'til 40! Not that there's anything wrong with being 40.

Have you ever bought contact lenses here? I don't think I've ever seen you wearing glasses. I'm wondering how pricey the contact lenses are. I'll be in the states soon, but I'm not sure if they'll accept a Mexican doctor's prescription for contacts.

I get my contact lenses from Costco and City Club. CC has B&L and Costco has Accuvue. I get free exams at both places also.

Default Eye Doctor

I just noticed there is an eye doctor at the medical clinic on Calle 2 and Avenida 25 if you need more than just glasses.

Thanks Scharke & Jamnkats! I still haven't gone to see a doctor. I think I'll give City Club a try. I've been meaning to check them out anyway.

My son has perfect vision, when he's able to be away from a computer monitor for any length of time. He works in the industry, he's a geek. But a couple of years ago he began manifesting the same issues.

He went to a friend of mine who is an Ophthalmologist, and he prescribed computer glasses for Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Since then, he's been fine and I wouldn't say he wears them constantly while at work, but often enough it seems for the symptoms to have been corrected by the glasses he wears while in front of the screen at work. He has no need for glasses otherwise, and has no correction.

He still shows no indication of vision loss or blurriness caused by hours staring at a computer screen all day.
