Locals Discounts

I'm starting a thread for locals discounts -- on restaurants, bars, resorts, amusement parks, etc. in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya. Please feel free to add any discounts you know of.

The Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda all-inclusive resort is offering a discount to locals. You must present proof of residence in Quintana Roo. This would generally be a driver's license or FM-3, but best to call for details.

Zenzi Beach Club now offers discounts to locals. You must bring proof of residency (this seems to be flexible if they know you already) to the bar and they will give you a VIP card. Each card has a number unique to the user and is non-transferable. I believe the card entitles the user to a 20% discount. More bars/restaurants should do the same!

When you say "locals" would you please be specific as to what that means; for example, the Blue Bay add says it's for Cancun residents. I normally assume "locals" to mean Playa residents but many times it applies to all "quintanarooenses".

Within the rest of the ad they state that you need to present ID from QRoo, so driver's license, voter registration, FM2/FM3 should all work.

Hi, I bought a bathing suit at Zingara and some items at Crush and they both gave discounts with an fm3. I think sometimes it depends on who is working in the store or other establishment as to a yes or no on discounts.

I plan to post discounts that people living in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya qualify for. I'll specify the requirements of the offer as much as I can. In the case of the Blue Bay ad, I didn't say anything because the ad had all the information -- although you did have to look for it in the fine print.

Thanks for the heads up! I wouldn't have even thought to ask for a discount there. Do you remember how much the discount was for?

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but Crococun Zoo has a 30% discount for locals. You must prove residence in Quintana Roo. The website says its for Cancunense, but at the zoo, they have a sign stating it is for Quintanarooense, and we were able to get the discount.

I've heard rumor that Tacomaron offers a locals discount...or has a discount card of some sorts. If anyone goes there soon they should ask Sam the owner. Or,when I see him again, i'll ask...

This doesn't say that you have to be a resident of Quintana Roo, but it is obviously targeted to Spanish speakers.

It's been a long time since I had a discount to post here.

Quinta Carmen Hotel on 5th Avenue is having a special for residents of Quintana Roo. $350 pesos per night plus tax. Don't know how long this discount will be available.
