If you have a car and can help her out please do:

Hello Animal Lovers,

I am having great difficulty with finding help for the airport pick ups for the volunteer vets this friday and sat. (the 8 and 9th, 10th and 12th)

I have AUG 8th... 4 different pick-ups at the airport.
IF YOU CAN HELP... PLEASE CALL ME ASAP OR EMAIL BACK QUICKLY.

I will give full details to you if you are able to help, just let me know which time you could help.
Depending on the landing time, They will either need to be taken to a school on 10th av or to the place the are staying in playa del secreto (half way between playa and PM).

AUG 8 2:20 landing 3 people continental 664- term 2

AUG 8 3:01 landing 3 people United 1670 - not sure terminal yet.

AUG 8 3:28 landing 2 people Delta 463 - term 3

We would love to help, but as our personal car resembles a colectivo I wonder if we'd get in trouble?

If you guys can check on that, I'd really appreciate it. If all looks good, we can cover at least 6 people in the van and if we put the back seat in (kind of difficult with all the luggage) we can get 3-4 more in. We'd be up for one trip on Saturday and can probably handle the first three arrivals (2:20, 3:01, 3:28)

Oh, that would be wonderful Kathy if you could! I have emailed the organizer with your concern. But I know they don't have the resources to get special permission from Migracion for us to volunteer. It's like most volunteering here. You just do it, and hope no one would be low enough to arrest or report you. If you do get pulled over or questioned at the checkpoint, I would just tell the cop that they are family or friends who are visiting you. Make sure you know their names, and have someone sit up front with you.

OH...after reading Libby's email I now understand the colectivo comment. I called Sherry and gave her your number. She thought your email address meant you were a cat lover (as in jammin' with cats or something like that).
I told her you loved all animals!

Thanks for offering to help! You are wonderful!

I'm not concerned about volunteering - I'm just picking up my good friends from the airport, right? i've done that with neighbors here - I'm just worried about the colectivo drivers. Maybe someone can contact the people arriving and make sure they pretend to be people we know well so the colectivo and taxi drivers won't get upset. We've already been warned that there is a white van like ours, with California plates, that the colectivo drivers say is doing pirate business between PdC and Cancun. We want to stay FAR AWAY from that mess.

OH WOW! Never would have thought of that! Um, have you considered painting your van another color?

Hi Kathy

I will be happy to advise the sindicato that your are doing this pick up, and maby ask them if they will volunteer a ride or 2 maby lol right????? Just send me an e mail to claudiadeplaya at hotmail dot com witht the plate number and schedule and then I will mail you back with the name of the head of the sindicato for Lazaro Cardenas.

I would offer my car unfortunately I had a flat yesterday and cannot find the tire size it has to be ordered. but I will be happy to drive if anyone can lend the car.
I know the paamul church has vans to have you thought of contacting them?

Maby If I get the tires on time....

Thank you Kathy you are always so sweet. and you are right about being carefull about the colectivos getting upset, they started stopping tour company vans in the highway that were doing pirate business that was on the news.
About the volunteer work, the organization just needs to send a letter to Inmigration with the names of the volunteers explaining exactly what they are doing, and there should be no problem.

Thanks Claudia - you are SO kind! I was concerned transporting 6 people, but now it looks like it will only be 2 people and that is much more manageable wrt the colectivos.

I am hoping to be able to spend some time volunteering in the recovery room this weekend. I wrote up some more information about VIDAS, this year's clinic and how we can help HERE.
