Default shipping personal items TO the US

Hi. A friend of mine is moving back to the US after 9 years in Playa.

Does anyone know a cheap way to ship items back to the US?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks- M

Marissa, Is she shipping furniture or big items? Or just a few boxes of clothes? If she only has a few boxes, shipping through DHL or FedEx is probably the way to go. But if she has lots of stuff and/or large items, she'd probably want to send it by ship. Air courier would be really expensive.

Unfortunately, I don't know who you contact to arrange something like that. I believe it would have to go through the customs area at Puerto Juarez in the northern part of Cancun. You might try contacting Francis on this forum. He is having his stuff shipped down here that way.

If she can wait until later this fall (September, October, November - she'd have to be very flexible) we can take it with us when we head north for a stockup trip. She MUST be very flexible though. We're definitely going north, but we travel very impulsively and never know when we'll cross the border. We might spend all Sept and October getting to the border or we might be there in 2 weeks. If she can handle that, and it would be box sized (and not furniture) we can definitely do that for her.

Has she checked out Merkalink? I'm not sure they take stuff out (I know they bring it in) but she can check.

Default shipping

There is a shipping service in Cancun, I do not know the name, but it is located on Uxmal and Yaxachilan. They have shipped many of my friends crap back to the States. Why not just sell it here and take the money and by it back there. It has to be cheaper there than to spend the shipping costs here

Hi. that is the million dollar question. It is not for me. It is for a dear friend of mine. I think it is more art work and files for her job - stuff she really needs/wants to get back to the States. I know most stuff is staying. But there are things she must get back.

I will pass this along. Thanks for the help!

Marissa,

I was quoted $3800 for a 20' container to Vera Cruz. I have enough space for a car and about 20 boxes of stuff.

Does anyone know of a reliable customs broker in Vera Cruz? (how far is that from PDC?)

Veracruz is over 800 miles driving distance from Playa del Carmen. Don't know of any customs brokers though.

Who did you contact to get that quote?

They should be able to ship to Cancun at Puerto Juarez. I believe they still have a customs office (Aduana) there.
