the young girl with a baby needing a place to stay

I think Claudia posted about her. I think about her all the time and wonder what happened. Does anyone know?

Hi!

It is very sweet that you think about her, and I wanted to to let you know what happened to her.

Chayo, is her name and Angel her baby stayed here until the father of the baby called hier looking for them, he knew it was the only place where she could go.
The night before they left him, he threatened her to take the baby and give it away, that was what made her leave him.
Unfortunately, very young people come to playa in the same situation, no work or very little, he was working in a kitchen for 1 500 pesos a month and that makes it hard, but is no excuse to want to give your baby away.

So I called the DIF, which is a great government organization here and we are lucky to have Steve Ryberg´s mother in Law as their director, and they gave me the emergency number of the battered women shelter that officially does not exist.

I was supper happy with a social worker who came to the house, interviewed Chayo and offered her to take her to the secret shelter, legal and psichological help and house and board. I packed her some of the toys that were donated by Melissa to go to Sacah Mucuy so she could pass them around at the shelter, but they would not let me go with her.

She has been there with Angel since, they cannot go out until they are ready to leave, they are also not allowed to get visitors or phone calls.
I have called her social worker a couple of times and she tells me she is fine, I have passed the number to a couple of friends that could offer her live in work with the baby but so far no one has offered her a live in position.

For now you can rest happy that she is safe, well fed, and with her own bed and one for Angel.

Thanks for the update Claudia. I'm glad to hear that such a shelter does indeed exist. I guess if it wasn't secret, the husbands would know where to look. So, thank goodness it's super top secret!

I have never met the father of the baby I only know his a kitchen helper in the Jaguar restaurant and he is 21 years old but I don't think he is unstable just desperate.

Rosario turned 2o years old and Angel, the baby is 7 months old. (I believe)

I will PM you but thought I would post the answer in case anyone else had the same concern.

this may be weird to say.... but... condoms in Playa cost about 30 pesos each.
that can be expensive for young adults to buy (on a regular basis).

especially if he only makes 150 pesos a month: home, food, water, etc.

wonder if this leads to many young couples being parents before they wanted to.....

It is weird how things happen, Today I got a call from the Dif telling me that Rosario is comming out this friday at 12 I hope someone can offer her a live in position, otherwise she is going to rent a small room somewhere and hope for the best! I am sure everything will be allright!

I hope everything works out, the place I had in mind for her and the child is too remote for someone so young.
I was a little overly optomistic I think, to even consider it once all was considered, lo siento.
