Default Honda Service Center Experience

Yesterday, John took our car into the Honda Service Center in Playa del Carmen on Hwy 307 and Calle 38. I thought I would write a little about our experience since our only other mechanic experience was a bad one, and whenever I ask for a mechanic recommendation, people here just sigh loudly or roll their eyes.

We had a problem with our car, plus we thought it was time to get it serviced as it had been 2 years since the car had seen a mechanic. And the heat and dust here can be tough on cars. So, when John took it in, he agreed to the 30,000-90,000 km service package.

When he picked it up later in the day, he learned that our problem was caused by a faulty sensor that was replaced for just a few dollars. Yay! They gave him a printed invoice that explained what was done with the car and what everything cost. The total bill was presented at once. (No nasty surprises like with the last mechanic.)

The car is actually running better than before (unlike last mechanic), and we didn't feel like we got fleeced (unlike last mechanic)! Overall, I think parts cost about the same or slightly more than in the U.S., and labor was much less expensive. But here's the breakdown for anyone who cares. This is in pesos, of course.

Parts
5 quarts of oil - 236.39
Transmission fluid - 66.73
Washer: Drainage cap?? - 4.02
Oil filter (Filtech Toyo Roki) - 91.66
Misc. materials - 66.00

Labor
Computer diagnostics - 279.40
8 Point Inspection - 121.42
Oil change & replace oil filter - 121.42
Drain & refill transmission fluid - 121.42
Replace brake fluids including ABS - 121.42
Clean & adjust brakes, Rotate tires - 121.42

Total - $1,231.87 peosos

I love it when I get to read good reviews of services here in Mexico.

Another place that I have found good service is the big place on the highway between CTM and Colosio. I forgot the name but it is a big red, white and blue building with a car painted on the front. They even did a rescue on my car when my alternator died and I couldn't get it started, they sent somebody with a charger and drove it to the shop to fix.

That's good to know! I thought about trying that place too.

My neighbor just took his BMW in for similar services and his bill was about the same. However, it was dollars, not pesos!

We knew that there was a Honda dealer here and that was part of the reason that we purchased a second Honda before coming down. We have also used them for routine stuff and had the same kind of experience. Friendly, prompt, all laid out and a good working car when we pick it up.
