If you buy the vehicle at a dealer, regardless if you pay cash or not, the plates can be delivered to the dealer and they usually arrive within 10 days or so.
That's the only answer I know

I think you should check with the Texas DOT to get answers on this. It should be easy to get accurate straightforward answers from them (unlike in Mexico).

Vehicle Titles

You would need to get temporary U.S. insurance to cover you in the U.S. until you reach Mexico. Actually, when we returned to the U.S. with our car for a month, we just got our old car insurance back again and then cancelled after a month and they reimbursed our unused premium. That was State Farm and they actually suggested that arrangement.

By the way, you had asked about Mexican car insurance before. We use Sanborn's. I've heard a lot of good things about them, but we haven't had occasion to test that out.

Careful with State Farm Susan. I use them also and when I was talking to them last week, they indicated that if there is a lapse in coverage, it will be next to impossible to get another policy with them for a very long time. We have a boat that a friend of mine is going to just assume payments when we leave and we will keep that boat under our State Farm policy just so we have SOMETHING insured through them.

That's true. We had to provide them with proof of our Mexican car insurance for the period that we were not insured by State Farm. They would not renew our insurance until then.
