That's awful...With 100 degree temps, a pool, 2500 square ft, and somebody always home with at least 3 tv's going,(me) our average summer bill is around 500.00 and that includes the water and sewage. (BTW..I like it cold in the house) Winter is alot cheaper. My heart goes out to you guys! |

The scary thing is that this is the reduced rate. Do you run the a/c less after September? Our realtor said they run it less in winter. Is there really such a thing with warm tropical year-round weather? I know there are occassional cool fronts that come. We were there in April and had a few days of cool weather. Our driver at the airport was wearing a jacket.
I heard from a local in our neighborhood that the rates north of downtown (where we will live) are cheaper, but I'm not sure if that is true. I knew electricity was more expensive in PDC than the US, but Toni & Cheri's bill is more than I had previously heard. Has anyone checked into solar power or wind power? This has been something I've been thinking about, but I didn't know where we'd put it if we had a palapa or how readily available the items were in QRoo. I found a company that sells solar systems last night that sticks out above the palapa. I contacted them about their systems and prices at Playa Systems - Alternative Energy for the Riviera Maya. I also read a post that Home Depot has solar hot water tanks and Costco has small wind generators and solar panels. Has anyone checked into those options? I am also curious about how hurricane proof those items are and I doubt those options are cheap either, but might save in the long run. I've also heard that the salt air causes the a/c units to be replaced every few years too and that it is hard on satellites. Anyone had issues with that or know how that might impact solar panels? |

Our last bill was $10,470 pesos and this is an average house and we are very conservative! Many days we have sweated our asses off. I have a large condo that I manage and their last bill was $30,800 pesos
WTF how can the rates possibly go up any more regardless of seasons!I just got back from San Miguel de Allende and the average bill for a 3500 sq foot home was $600 pesos for two months. We are paying the highest rates in all of Mexico now. Beach tax CFE can Kiss my

I really had no idea electricity was this expensive in PDC. I knew it was more expensive than the US, but dang...............I am seriously going to look into solar panels.
