Default FM3 for Dummies ...

Can anyone offer me advice on gaining the FM3? I am prob in quite a different situ from many as an EU citizen married to a Mexican but perhaps the principles will be the same? The Mexican Embassy in the UK suggested I enter as a tourist and then swap my migratory status.

Assuming I'll need to translate a load of paperwork; birth cert, marriage cert etc... Do you think it best to get an official adviser on the case etc? Any suggestions?

A friend suggested that if I got a solid job offer the potential employer might organise the FM3 on my behalf - any views?

I am hoping it is fairly straight forward process ... (fingers crossed)?

THANK YOU!!!

If I were you I'd get an FM2 (as you're married to a Mexican) and then go straight to citizenship in 2 years. You can definitely hire an attorney if you'd like, and if you're lucky enough to get a job the company may arrange paperwork, but it is very easy enough to get it on your own. Get your marriage certificate apositiled before you leave though.

Eek, didn't think of getting the marriage apostilled; perhaps an excuse for another wedding bash ... ! Am feeling a bit more reassured by your replies. I'll enquire re the FM2 but not sure that one allows you to work ...?

I would suggest getting a lawyer. BUT...be very, very careful as to the one you choose. I had one screw me and then had to get another to straighten out the mess he had made. I can suggest her to you if you want. She is not corrupt and does everything exactly as it should be done. I am also married to a Mexican but a Canadian. You should get an FM2 and make sure you state you want to work. You can get an FM 2 and still not be able to work if you have not requested it. Once you find a job the employer will give you a letter stating offer of employment and then immigration has to say it is okay for you to work. There is no charge for them to add the employer to your FM2 because you are married to a Mexican...if you were not there would be a charge. I know because I have done all this recently. I can give you the name of the lawyer but I am not sure if they will let me post it here but her office is right outside the immigration office on the right as you are going in. Hope this helps.

Thanks John...her name is Teresa Rubi Mendiola....you will definitely not go wrong with her. Warning...she is very straight forward and honest! She will not promise you something she can not do and she goes by the book. Her prices are fair. She does immigration law, real estate titles and criminal law. Her office also does translations and she speaks perfect English, Spanish and French. Like I said her office is right outside immigration on the right going in. Her office number is 873 3253.
