Default Telcel WAP/MMS settings

Libby recently purchased a camera phone, so we've been trying to figure out how to set it up to be able to send her pictures through email, and also to our new In The Roo Mobile Weblog. We finally figured it out, so I thought I'd post some instructions.

To activate your phone for MMS (Multi-media Messaging Service), you need to send the text message "ALTA" (no quotes) to the phone number 789. Then you need to wait about 24 hours for them to activate your service. You will either get a "success" or "failure" type response from the service after you send the message. The word "ALTA" needs to be capitalized!

After your service is activated, you need to make sure that your phone settings are correct for sending MMS messages. Here's some information I found online regarding the setup parameters:

Settings for Telcel Mexico WAP and MMS services

- WAP Service settings -
Profile Name: Telcel
Home URL: http://upaapps.telcel.com:8582/telcelwap.wml
Bearer: GPRS First
Proxies: Enabled

GPRS Settings
IP: 148.233.151.240
Port: 8080
APN: wap.itelcel.com
Username: iesgprs
Password: iesgprs2002

GSM settings
IP: 148.233.151.245
Port: 8080
Dial Number:*273
Username: iescsd
Password: iescsd2002
Data Call Type: ISDN

Then save the settings and restart your phone. You may need to set your current proxy to the correct setting.

- MMS Service settings -

Settings Name: MMS
Homepage: http://mms.itelcel.com/servlets/mms
Proxies: Enabled
Version: 1.2 (295KB)

Then go to GPRS Settings.

IP: 148.233.151.240
Port: 8080
APN: mms.itelcel.com
Username: mmsgprs
Password: mmsgprs2003

Then save the settings and restart your phone.

Please feel free to post follow-up questions. I'll help where I can.
