That sounds like an amazing trip. I've read a lot about Holbox recently. I would love to visit there sometime. Seems so beautiful, natural, and unspoiled.

Hello Beth&Scott,
Andy and Jen are just the best
They found a great home for Osa, which was really not so easy.
Playa del Carmen would be despaired without them.
They are doing a wonderfull job. I really admire their commitment.
Susie

Holbox looks amazing .. loved your pictures of the whale sharks and your website too ... thanks ... I am a strong swimmer but I don't think I could swim with the whale sharks ... would probably have a heart attack as soon as I saw them next to me in the water!

For me, the ride out was all part of the beauty of the tour. Sometimes you can see other things apart from just the whale sharks. For example, dolphins and birds. It is quite a long journey by boat: between an hour and an hour and a half. I guess it just depends on the guide you have. I had one called Eduardo, who unfortunately does not work there anymore. He was cool because he had a map and explained alot of things. We sort of filled up the transfer time with interesting info about the area and wildlife.
Of course, if you can avoid a big group, you will get more chances and time to spend snorkeling with them.

Usually the end of May to mid September. However, this year the cooperatives had some delays in their permits and started operating on the 15th of June to the 15th of September. Just confirm that they are fully operating beforehand. We collaborate with a tour company in Holbox so if you want, I'll let you know when the official date is opened around the end of May.
