This report was awhile ago,but I referenced it because its a very informative report and I'm thinking of going there in May (& at least a day or one night trip to Belize). Has this town cleaned up even more since Hurricane Dean?

Is there secluded beach areas that Scott could fish without bothering anyone? The protected reef has me wondering if shore fishing is even allowed...

I just did a GOOGLE search on Mahahaul Trip Reports and one link brought me here!!

I am planning a few days there in October and researching now. I did read this report when you first posted it! Hard to believe that was already 1 1/2 years ago!

Hi Libby - great trip report! I was pointed to this by a forum member, and I'm definitely glad I read it! Would you mind if I shared a link to your trip report on my blog? (mayanrivieragringa.blogspot.com)

I'm going down to Mahahual for 5 days in May - do you think 5 days is too long?

Thank you!

That would be great. Fwiw, you can make your blog linkable so it'll be easier for people to click on.

It depends what you want to do. If you are cool with hanging out and relaxing, you'll probably be fine. If you are looking to do something new and interesting everyday, you may go a little stir crazy. Our trip (2 days) was too short, but I think 5 days might have been a little too long.

I know that things have changed since Libby wrote up our trip report. For example, the cruise ship port was not yet open. An ex-colleague of mine and his wife recently had a cruise ship stopover in the Costa Maya, and they did not like it one bit - compared it to a strip mall. Hmmm. I'm not sure how much travel, especially international travel, they do, so take it as just another person's opinion.

Beth -

John - thank you. I'm posting the trip report link on my blog this morning. Personally, my interest in Mahahual lies beyond the "strip mall" and malecon...although I will walk them just to get the eperience. Sadly, I think a lot of tourist's experiences (especially cruise-ship tourists) are like your friends and it's my hope to encourage venturing beyond the "stage" of what is first seen.

Have a great day!
