Default May 2009 San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel take 2 No driving for us this time! We booked our flights with Magni air around the middle of April and it was even on sale! for 1 day only Called our friends and told them to get down there and book as saving money is always a good thing. Our friends Nikki & Preston were joining us again and soon we had 1 more wanting to come, Sweet Sandra. Perfect! 5 makes a really good party We depart May 7th.

Now comes swine flu! WTH? We monitor the news and discuss if we should cancel or go......what to do? SMA is only 4 hrs. from Mexico city. By this time most of our reservations are cancelling here in Playa and it's all just blowing up! The world has gone mad......

As May 7th rolls around it's perfectly clear that H1N1 as it is now called is one big HOAX! By this time anger had set in and we all decide we are not going to let this spoil our vacation What a bunch of hog wash, pardon the pun It's a mild flu and more than 36,000 people in the US alone die each year from the regular flu! The media needs to have some accountability on their reporting methods. It's suppose to be facts not the National Enquirer. Stepping off the soapbox now

Anyways, off we go. Nikki, Preston and Sandra are staying for 1 week and we are there for 2 weeks. Time to relax......

Love this photo! The great thinker

Progresso

Leon airport. Felt really hot but not sweaty hot

The drive to San Miguel from Leon 1 1/2 hrs through the desert

1st house we rented and not really worth mentioning. The living room had wooden benches to sit on. We all felt like we were in Church even though we don't get there much, we know......

This trip there is two of us taking photos which is wonderful! I am so used to taking all the pictures and this time I wasn't as inspired as my 1st visit. Between Sandra and I we have 1000's of pictures but of course I will be pretty brief here on this TR.

We were always looking for Sandra and she was like me the 1st time. In love!

Looking forward to more. I go in spurts of inspiration as well. Sometimes I am all shutter happy and find great shots everywhere. Other times, I just want to chill out and take it all in with no camera lens between me and my surroundings.

More! More!

I'm the same for sure. After everything that we left behind in Playa I just wanted to relex and chill. I was not shutter happy this time but there will be a 3rd trip I am certain. I would really like to spend some time in this area. It's very facinating to me. It was also really a treat to have someone else taking photos, takes the pressure off.

Break time! My favorite place in all of San Miguel. Harry's New Orleans Oyster Bar. Great food and drinks and we spent many breaks and nights there

The art work on the walls in this place is amazing and erotic. This is the blues portion More to come on the erotic

The streets of San Miguel are so interesting. You really have to peer into every open doorway to get a good look at what's inside. They are not allowed to put signs that stick out sideways on a building and all signage must be approved by the government so it keeps the heritage look of the city. All paint colors must also be approved by the city so you can't just paint your house or business purple

At one time these were grand homes and now many have been turned into retail stores with the kitchen intact. This is one of my favorite stores.

Break time. 2 for 1 martinis at Harry's New Orlean Oyster bar

Back out onto the streets....

These stands for the ferns were amazing! This particular plant seems to thrive there and they get HUGE. Beautiful.

The market has a fresh section and a handicrafts section. Spectacular stuff and I did buy a couple of pieces of jewelery that I adore! A dozen roses with trimmings is $35 pesos.

hahaha

Back to the usual hideaway Had the most amazing meal. The New Orleans ribs are to die for! and of course the free bottle of champagne helped but the 2 for 1 martinis are the best

The majority of the painting at Harry's are like this but they did have 2 Toller Cranston's on hanging as well
