It's funny, what we like about Playa del Carmen over the other Mexican resort areas we have been to is pretty much what we appreciate the lack of in other Mexican destinations....if that makes any sense.

The more touristy type of area attractions (like Xcaret/Xel Ha, even Starbucks), a bigger variety of restaurants/food and the more partylike atmosphere. Also there is a bigger variety of tourists on that side, not just North Americans. That and the white sand/crystal clear calm water is really nice!

The clear blue water.
And that fact that it is very close for us as far a plane ride goes (I hate to fly).

And I love the vibe of the town and seeing people from all over the world just hanging out. And the local people have always been very kind to us.
