Default Best beach clubs (with photos)

Okay, firstly I'll admit this is me being a little self indulgent and wanting this for my own purposes, to save my flitting about, searching, forgetting things, not being able to find them again etc....

But also I thought this would actually be a very useful resource for anyone looking to visit Playa..

So here is my idea...

How about on this thread, people share with us their favourite beach clubs in and around Playa, along with a photo or two preferably, perhaps a brief why it's good/bad etc, how busy they get, likely hood of getting a chair etc etc.

So, so far I am aware of Zenzi, Zoobool, Maromoa, Kool, Mamitas, El Paraiso...I think that's all off the top of my head but I'm sure you guys know more since I've never even been to any of the beach clubs in Playa ..would be really cool to have a little collection of photos and brief description of each all in one place...plus everyone loves sharing their photos anyway so you guys shouldn't need to much encouraging I hope??

Default One of our favs...

Is HVR at Xpu Ha beach, next door to the former Cafe del Mar. Technically it's a private beach club for the guests of Hacienda Vista Real in Playacar, but they let us use the facilities as long as we drank and ate there. Very peaceful, comfy chairs, and on one of the most beautiful beaches around!

Can't wait to visit again in a few months!!

The HVR club at Xpu Ha is great.

The guys that took care of us last August stayed open just for us, we were the only people on the beach, which by the way is beautiful!

Good thing they rode us back to town in the now "infamous" cattle truck.

Ahhhh memories........

Yeah, you got the "special" treatment! I think that was before they went private, right?

We gave Pedro, the young cabana boy, a ride down the access rode in Feb. Good thing we picked him up or we would have had to wait for him to walk all the way down the road to untie the big chain they had across the driveway!

They were very nice to us, let us use all the facilities. The food was okay, the drinks weren't expensive, the bathrooms were clean and the music was nice. But nothing beats the beach and water there. The waves are great for bodysurfing and it's nice and sandy. I think we'll be spending a few days there again this summer, but we'll rent a car. Wouldn't want to have to take the "cattle truck" back to Playa!!

Talking El Pirata

We love hanging out at EL Pirata. We've been going so many years the bartenders(Jose & Rueben) and waiters (Antonio is the best) are our amigos.

Unfortunately, prices for chairs and beds at beach clubs vary based on a lot of factors -- time of day, time of year (busy or low season), the weather (raining or sunny), who you talk to, what they think you can afford, etc. It's really tough to get an "official" price.

I rarely use beach chairs at the clubs but when I do, I always negotiate. I'm not always successful. Once at Mamitas, it was raining and there were hardly any people there. The guy wanted $100 pesos a chair. I assured him we would immediately order food & drinks, but he would not relent. I guess he figured we were desperate for some cover from the rain.
