Default Live music in Playa

We are leaving tomorrow am, first time to Playa, can't wait. My husband and would like to hear live music while in Playa. Some tex-mex, or Freddy Fenderish stuff would be great, but we like all kinds of music. We are willing to go off the beaten path. Also are there any Irish bars. Any sugesstions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I don't know about Freddy Fender but there is plenty of live music in Playa!
Everynight - Siesta Fiesta on 5th Ave, various bands and music genres.
Tuesday Night - Bad Brad and the Culture Orphans at The Pinche Gringo 1at Ave. at calle 26
Thursday and Saturday Nights - JJ and the Nasty Bastards heat up the stage at Bad Boyz on the beach between calles 2 and 4. Music starts at 4pm and goes to about 9pm. Third set is Open Mic!!
Friday Nights - Chris Bolister croons to a packed room at The Pinche Gringo at 1st and 26th. 8pm til midnight.
Also try Bourbon Street Bar on 5th Ave and The jam Session on 5th and Calle 42 (?) I'm not sure if they are still open. Anyone been there lately?

Hi annastatia. Well, I have to admit that I have no idea who Freddy Fenderish is, and I'm even quite sure what Tex-mex music is. Would that be like Selena? Tejano?

But here are some places that you can catch live music at.

Pinche Gringo - Bad Brad (bluesy rock) on Tuesdays and Chris Bolister on Saturday nights

Bad Boys - Dirty Bastards on Thursdays & Saturdays

Siesta Fiesta - Live music most nights

Bourbon Street - blues

Kitxen - Rock, funk, reggae. Owned by the lead singer of the Jaguares, a Mexican rock band.

Perla Negra - Mexican Ranchero or Norteno live music. I believe they play Wednesday through Sunday nights.

Mambo Cafe - Live salsa band most nights

Enjoy!

The Jam Session appears to still be open. Not sure what the music scene is like these days though.

I've actually never been there. Too enclosed for my taste. I always wonder "What the heck is going on in there?". Looks very secretive like the Free Masons....or an Elks Club

I am a big fan of trios, like Los Panchos, and latin jazz type music. I have seen a few trios wandering around town, does any know of any good places to hear acoustic Latin music? I'm talking simple guitar and requinto music.

Another vote for Bad Boys. Great place to wander down to after a day on the beach.

Oh wow, I'll have to look into that. I certainly hope they haven't closed! I love that place!

Apparently they HAVE closed down. The guys at the Karaoke Bar across the street said they were told they closed down. Which would explain why they were never open when I walked past.

I heard that they were moving closer to Playacar. The word on the street is that they want more green monied customers, rather than the local hospitality workforce. They tried the same thing in Cancun. It didn't work.

Mambo Cafe is a chain with numerous nightclubs in larger cities throughout Mexico. I suspect they'll be back and I have my fingers crossed they'll move into the location once occupied by the Moon Bar... on the rooftop above Bodeguita del Medio. Here's a LINK to their website.

Before Mambo Cafe moved into Playa, there were lots of little salsa clubs scattered around town. My favorite was an upstairs club called Calypso, on Calle 6 between 10th & 15th Avenue. The rest seemed to be concentrated up near Dominos on Juarez.

Kind of intrigued to check out Perla Negra... that'll be my first stop next time I'm down.

Jimmy

This gal at Coco Maya was fabulous, although the cover wasn't.

In talking with a friend the other day I discovered that they were closed. He told me that the 'format' was being changed to Rancherro style music. I haven't heard anything further to confirm that.
