Read this post in blog format.

In my series of 5th Avenue walks, I've strolled from Calle 4 up to CTM (aka Calle 46). Today, I head back south to cover Calle 4 south to the ferry dock area. This part of 5th Avenue is loaded with shopping -- from the cheap and mass-manufactured to the unique and luxurious.

Ambar carries unique and beautiful amber jewelry pieces. Get a 15% discount with the V.I.P. smart card.

The ubiquitous Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestling) masks for sale.

Plaza La Fiesta carries just about any Mexican souvenir you can think of. Prices are not always the best, but it's a good place to check prices before bargaining at the smaller stores. Or just show your V.I.P. smart card here and save 10%. No haggling necessary.

At Casa Tequila, you can try it before you buy it.

Sacbe has beautiful and unique Mexican crafted items, such as sculptures and Talavera pottery.

Lots of silver shops down this way. Taxco is the Mexican city famous for its silver production and crafts.

Karen's got kitsch.

Cheap Mexican drugs. We gottem. Right on 5th Avenue.

Cold beer to go.

The El Palomar Hostel has an interesting mascot.

Scotiabank is a sister bank to Bank of America.

After you blow all your money at Diamonds International, you can save some cash by eating upstairs at McDonald's. And make sure to get the V.I.P. discount on your bling.

At this shop on 5th and Juarez, you'll find U.S. imported junk food not available anywhere else in Playa. Expect to pay dearly for it!

As we approach the ferry pier, we see more and more signs welcoming the cruise ship passengers with special discounts.

At these shops, you can purchase T-shirts, inexpensive jewelry, marble chess sets, soccer jerseys, blankets, hammocks and so much more. Just remember to haggle!!

Scotiabank is a Sister bank to Bank of America?!
What exactly does that mean?
Do you know?
If I have a BOA account may I withdraw money without the service fee?

just curious.

Yes, if you have a BofA account, you ca withdraw cash from Scotiabank ATMs without withdrawal fees. At least, we've done so at the ATMs at Soriana Super, Mega and the Scotiabank at 10th Avenue & Constituyentes. I'm not sure if we've ever used this particular ATM. For all I know, they might charge a fee just because of the area it's in.

Libby does the fleamarket face the waterfront?
Didn't see it last trip and we walked down to the pier
and up Juarez to 5th stopping at the little bar east
of the one with the swings.
Has happy hr. in the afternoon with a second floor.
Lovin' these. Again, thank's.
Craig.

The "flea market" shops are right on 5th Avenue, just a little north of Carlos & Charlie's, or about 1 1/2 blocks south of Juarez avenue where the ADO bus station and the Playa Mart General Store is. You can find the same type of shops selling the same kinds of things all along 5th Avenue. But they are concentrated on the south end, particularly near the ferry pier.

The place with the swings is Pez Vela. La Casa del Agua is across the street from Pez Vela (to the east). They do have an upstairs, but I've always thought of it as more of a restaurant than a bar. Is that the place you're thinking of?

Libby, the place we went to is on Juarez acroos from the church in the
middle of the block. A couple of doors west of a silver store
ran by a family we befriended while there.
Thanks.
Craig.

Could be Cholula Life. I don't have a picture of it handy, but it's a very colorful building.
