Default Big Al & Redneck Steve's Beer Bucket is OPEN

Got the word from Jez last night and Marissa and Deb this morning... had to swing by, have a cold Corona, and get some visual proof for everyone. We'll be heading back later this evening, so there should be an update tomorrow, but here's proof that the 6 day turnaround was a success.

Some familiar faces were already present: Duke, Jez, ? and PlayaCountryBoy (Fantasea Dive):

The Bucket was already hopping with people at 3:30pm.

The new owners must be catering to a younger crowd:

Big Al selling new Beer Bucket T-shirts to pay off the bar.

Jim, MayaPlayaGrandma and Duke.

It's hard to get a decent photo in the bathroom, but here's one for redhairgirl1:

I walked by and it looked nice, new paint, clean and busy!

Congrats on the opening!

Yes the grand opening is tonight. According to Big Al's blog, this is what's in store for tonight.

THE BIG PARTY
CRAZY WIG NIGHT - $100 prize going to the best wig of the night
BRING YOUR DOG OR DONKEY TO THE BUCKET DAY

I, for one, will leave the donkey at home tonight. But, to each their own.

Default Opening Night Pictures

They said it couldn't be done but Jez and crew pulled off the seemingly impossible and reopened the Beer Bucket in less than 2 weeks after it changed hands. (If you know anything about the bureacracy of opening a bar here you'll know that this really is impossible.)

There were no crazy wigs in sight nor any dogs or donkeys. However they did have $10 peso beers! Now that would have been blogworthy!

Here's some pics from Saturday night.

Some of you may recognize Rocky in the back. When asked what he thought of the new bar Rocky responded: "I like it." Wow! When asked what he thought of the new owners Rocky says: "They've got potential."

Thanks for the pictures Libby. It looks like they picked up right where Ron and Sharkey left off. Hats off to Jez for keeping the beer flowing

They were on a provisional liquor license. The hours will return to normal soon, if they haven't already.

Interesting.

Why wouldn't the liquor license transfer to the new owners?

Ah, okay I think I have it. Each new owner/ownership group has to submit for a separate license. I'm used to a certain number of licenses being available each year, as in our city, and when someone wants to sell, or buy, the license is sold along with the business, or sometimes just the license alone.

In my city, for example, and in many instances just the liquor license sells for some mid-six figures, given supply and demand.

But still, they must have really had their ducks in a row to obtain a separate license, even a provisional one, so quickly. Given that it wasn't just a city council up or down vote on the transfer, but the entire process from start to finish.

Is one always obtained that quickly or was this some sort of PDC record?

In any case, good for them, and by all accounts, good for PDC.
