We have always stayed at the Maya Bric. You can't beat the location and the price. But, the main reason we like it is because of their nice little courtyard in the middle of the hotel with a pool for the kiddies. The a/c works good in all the rooms and they now have free Internet access in the lobby. The only amenity they don't have is a TV; they have cable and if you ask nicely they will put a little 13' TV in your room with cable. Hotel Maya Bric

Thank's for the speedy reply Dan.
Don't watch tv in Mexico so no problemo.

Craig.

Mom's - The furthest away from the beach. Older facilities. Good for a longer term stay.

Maya Bric - Gets good press

Alux - Next door to me Clean, close to 5th and the beach, nice folks.

Hotel Casa Tucan - Owned by my friend Horst. It's near Manne's, so that's good. This is an old school Playa hotel, lots of Europeans, cool digs.

Club Yebo - Great location!! I think Buggirl just stayed there. I'm sure she'll chime in.

Sorry I can't help more.

Sorry I can't speak personally abt any of the places you've mentioned...but just to add to the equation, have you checked out Posada Freud? I love the place, and their standard rooms are inexpensive ($50/nite low season) and some (but not all, so be sure to ask) have air.

If you're looking at Casa Tucan, take a look at Casa de Gopala, too. they no longer share a pool with CT, but they're right around the corner and now have a rooftop pool. Very reasonable prices, and convenient to the colectivos, that's where we always stay.
I don't know if bluespicker has wandered away, but you could pm him; he and his wife just stayed there.

We have stayed at the Maya Bric many times and it is still one of my favorite places to stay.......It's cheap.......Clean.....Has a pool.......Outside sitting area.......You can use the computer at the office too......I have never heard any street noise while staying there......It's clean the AC is cold has a safe in the room......If you have a car you can park it on the property.......Driving down fifth to park there did take some getting use to......Still not a fan of staying anywhere North......We prefer being in the middle of the town/city.....Walmart and the Mega grocery store are within walking distance.......And they have a fairly new beach club called Zenzi that is just down tenth to the beach.....Plus the North beach where Kool Mamita's and other better know beach clubs are is just a ten fifteen minute walk away.....But overall Maya Bric is one of the best deals and best locations IMO........

Default Luna Blue

I'm certain you'll have some good responses as folks have indeed stayed in those places mentioned.

If being right on 5th Avenue is your thing, those are good choices.

If you'd like to experience life north of 5th Avenue and the Chill Vibe, you can't match the value, and if safes and/or safety is a concern, the Luna Blue Hotel. Great prices, amenities, location in the north end (my personal favorite part of PDC) is superb for anything you might imagine apart from the hub-bub of the lower 5th Avenue scene. New A/C units and digital safes in most of the rooms (If no digital safe they have the key/lock system of days past also) and you are given a key for late night access as the facility is locked down at night with a night monitor on-site all evening.

Several different room/price options.

Oh, and I see the Luna Blue Hotel was Trip Advisor's choice for the cost-conscious traveler in the Playa Del Carmen Spring and Summer Travel Guide...Yet another professional accolade for the Luna Blue Hotel.

We have never had a problem with noise at the Bric. We always get a room downstairs by the pool. Alot of divers stay there and they don't seem to party much. too busy studying. They can get you a huge bottle of water for you room cheapo and sometimes they have a cooler to lend ya.

Their rooms are very basic but also very clean. They also have a safe in the room.

We also like the Pension San Juan. It's on 5th between 4th and 6th. Nice rooms, safe, clean, and provides a cold water cooler on the 2nd floor. A nice shared patio and kitchen on the 3rd overlooks 5th. No pool.

As others have said, noise is rarely a problem at the Maya Bric. Unless I'm there with my kids and my extended Mexican family. Their website says they only 6 rooms have with a/c so your choice may be limited by that. The main reason we stay there is the pool, not many budget hotels in Playa have one. I would like to try the Luna Blue one day, maybe we'll check it out this summer. I like the fact that they have a bar!

Hi Craig!

I stayed at the Alux and really like it there!! The staff was super friendly, I had a huge room, and I always had a hot shower (sometime too hot!). Very much worth the money! The only downside I had was that I did not have a room with balcony or even window that that brought in sunlight. The two windows I had looked at two brick walls. So, if I were you, I'd request a bacolney (this is not to say you'll get one though).

I just got back from 5 nights at Club Yebo. I really enjoyed my stay there as well. My room was very quiet and cool. I only slept with the ceiling fan on and some nights I'd wake up freezing. The only downside to this place might be the other people that are staying there. The pool is outside all the rooms and sometimes you might have people partying in the pool late at night or they'd might be in it early in the morning. But the location and cost is very ideal!!

I have to say...I still like Hotel Delfin, right on 5th avenue and 6th street. Rooms are nice and big, they have great a/c, a fridge for your bevies, a safe tho I've never used it, great water pressure with lots of hot water. Cheap rates and so close to everything. Stayed there twice this year and will most definitely stay there again.
