I loved your bug report, Ginger! I was totally able to visualize you freaking out!
But where are the bug pictures?? I want to see the bugs! I actually find bugs fascinating and I have quite a few bug pictures. I've become accustomed to sharing my home with a certain amount of bugs, but I will NOT share my bed with them! I look forward to reading more about your trip, and to hopefully meeting you real soon! Sorry I missed you and the fam last night!! John says you guys are really cool.

Also meant to ask you about Calakmul. Did you need a guide to visit the ruins or did you go it alone? I remember years ago reading that you could only enter with a guide.

Ugh, Stewart! What a crappy photo of me (great of you tho).
In my defense, we were standing in Pizza Pazza which was about 45 degrees celcius, it was the end of the night, I was a sweaty, messy-haired mess! Escaping: Hey, thanks so much for stopping us to say hello, that was really cool! I'm always happy to hear about people reading the blog, it makes it worthwhile to keep doing it. Libby: no, we didn't need a guide but I would recommend it for one really good reason: it is SOOO easy to get lost! The ruins encompass a very, very large area and while they do have maps, the maps have no words on them, and tell you nothing about where you are or where to go. They are not labelled or anything, and absolutely impossible to decipher. At one point we were all lost, and we did find our way out, but it was getting close to dark. I thought that would be very dangerous to be lost within the ruins (they are dense in the jungle) at night not knowing what to do. especially given you are in the jungle, and they told us that there were indeed wild jaguars, ocelots, poisenous snakes, etc. in the area. ![]() As far as photos of bugs, I am too busy running screaming from the vicinity with arms flailing to THINK about photographing them. But our friends' son took a couple of pics with my camera of one strange bug, and an enormous spider (tarantula sized) that I wouldn't even go LOOK at. (the prospect of him within a 5 mile radius of me caused much screaming and hysteria, as everyone laughed). To be honest, I had trouble even editing this photo!!! ![]()

Nora/Nick: Thanks! And if you ask some of the folks down here who have met my little character (Jorden) they'd tell you his answer to that would be "of COURSE I am."
