Default Hi everyone

My name is Michael I live in Monterrey, MX

I hail from Rochester NY but I've lived in Monterrey since I was born. I visit my family every year though

I'm gonna be in Playa del Carmen with my friends for a week starting Saturday July 5th.

Luckily its a short 2 hour flight, I've been reading what everyone has to say about playa and I'm pumped. I find it great that you guys really took a loving approach to Mexico.

I got a couple of questions...

First of all...

What kind of clubs do you guys recommend. I'm used to paying around 100 dollars a bottle in the premier clubs up here in Monterrey, should I expect the same down in Playa?

There's a little problem though

I'm 17 so I'm not legal yet. In MOnterrey its not a problem since in most clubs they don't ID you if you look old enough, and in the clubs that do ask for your ID I always have some sort of connection.

Since I've never been to playa I don't know what to expect

I'm thinking its a lot laxer than Monterrey since Quintana Roo's bread and butter is the tourist industry.

Does anyone have some experience in this regard?

Here's a pic if you guys are wondering what a well to do Mexican looks like

Hi Michael! Down in Playa, a good just chill place is Zenzi. It's right off 5th and you can rent a chair and towel for $5. Drinks are reasonable and the snacks are good.

Maybe I'm not hip or cool but what does your parents think about you running around at 17 years old in a far off town, looking for places that will allow you to drink although you are underage?

I just have to ask this because my son is almost 17 and I cannot imgaine him being responsible enough not to get into trouble in this kind of situation.

I'm in the back

My parents are ok with it. Hell, I'm 18 in October and in Mexico its accepted to start drinking as early as 16. They trust me because I've been in this environment since I got in HS basically, they just ask me to be responsible and don't drink and drive.

The culture and age requirements are just diffent in Mexico and I'm sure that as with anything, when a young person is exposed to things at an early age, they tend to be a little more accepting and responsible about those things as they get a little older. I know that I am just over protective, especially when it comes to teens drinking, specifically when there are not adults around to monitor. I know the last thing you want to hear is some lecture from some adult that you do not know but please know that the reason I posed the question was because we hear so many horror stories that teens get behind the wheel after drinking and perhaps get themselves into situations that could have devastating effects on them for a long time (I'm talking primarily for young teen girls). Good to hear your parents are talking to you about you being responsible and not drinking and driving.

I'm sorry...I'll get off my soapbox now.
I hope you have a great time in Playa. Be safe.

Hi Bill and welcome to In The Roo. I don't think you'll have a problem getting served alcohol in Playa del Carmen. I imagine you'd mostly like the clubs on Calle 12 between the beach and 10th Avenue.

Bali Club
Santanera
Blue Parrot
Coco Maya
El Cielo
Zenzi

Have a great time!

The temptation to make a smart-ass remark here is almost too great to bear. Actually, anyone who has been to Playa has seen lots of well-to-do Mexicans, they are everywhere. I was in Playa this weekend and every time I go I am amazed at how much domestic tourism seems to be increasing.

I think Cancun is more your type of scene. Lost of discos and gigantic clubs there. And, from what I understand, if you have the money, it's pretty easy to get in them and get some of those $100 bottles.
