Default Need Creative Ideas

Ok I have an opportunity to get tickets to Playa in around a month for 289.99 per ticket round trip. Price is very nice but heres the rub and where i need help...my wife says no way we can go because its 11 days. She says she cant take that much time off of work even though shes asked her boss who told her it was fine but she'd have to take 4 days without pay because she doesnt have any time left after that. Shes also afraid her mother (our daycare) wouldnt be too keen on babysitting our kids for 11 days. How do I convince my wife and mother in law so that we can go!!!!???

Creative ideas on either issue??

Show them pictures from trip reports or wherever. Tell her she DESERVES the time off. Make it a 2nd or 3rd honeymoon.

For your MIL, plan on taking her along on the next trip (but make it more like 4 or 5 days). Also, if your kids are in school, emphasize the fact that they will be occupied elsewhere for X number of hours per day. (This is why we travel without the kids only when they are in school and not on break).

As for your wife, is she reluctant to take 4 days without pay? Or is she worried that even though the boss said "ok", it might not really be OK?

Tell them you are going through a mid life crisis...and you just need time to relax with the most amazing woman in the world...

Or just book it and tell her she has to go!

Tell her how much money you'll save going for 11 days rather than 7.

Wife: tell her four days with no pay will be worth it once you sink your toes into that sand and feel the ocean breeze. Get visual: imagine the first margarita, strolling hand and hand on the shore, reconnecting in paradise and all that jazz. Tell her she deserves it and you do to. If needed, remind her about your 40th bday and let her know that this vacation is the only thing that will prevent an inevitable mid life crisis.

MIL: take her out to eat at a nice place and beg. It's public, she can't raise a scene. Bring that little angel in your avatar and cut her in on the action: cool souvenirs if she promises to be good for grandma; even have her pipe in with a well placed "We'll have so much fun, Grandma!"

Good luck!

As far as my MIL goes, she doesnt vacation...matter of fact anything longer than about 5 days she considers absolutely frivilous!

Wife isnt so much about the money she'd lose as she doesnt feel as though it will be looked upon well at work with her co-workers.

Ok just wanted to thank everyone for the great ideas thus far!

I "think" we have this somewhat hammered out and have found airfare for a 9 day stay instead (apparently that 2 days is a huge deal for my wife...whats 2 days!!), but now we have that taken care of and have found airfare......

Our fav hotel is booked for those dates!

Probobly something that many of you have run into but its never been an issue before for us...thats what we get for waiting too long i suppose. Now we have to start all over with airfare and hotel dates...

We'll get it figured out i suppose because I'll be danged if I will miss Playa 2 years in a row!

Pick a different hotel...you have come so far, don't give any ground back, you might not get it back!

Why do you have to start all over? If you've got the cheap airfare, just pick another hotel. We always book the air first then the hotel. There's lots of good hotels to choose from.

What he said!!! Good lord don't miss out on the entire trip!! I'm sure the proprietors of your favorite hotel (whoever they are) appreciate the loyalty but, but, but....to sacrifice travel for a YEAR just to go back to the same place? There are plenty of great places to stay in Playa - and in 9 days you could even try 2!

Ok anyone wanna come over and kick me in the head about 5 times!

Everything changed again tonight. My wife WANTS the hotel we always stay at so we have had to change dates again. Now I have the hotel but am having trouble finding reasonable airfare....lol! At least we confirmed and secured the room for the 9 days, so that is all pretty much set in stone. Now my objective..should I choose to accept it *cue music* is to find airfare for under $1000 round trip for the both of us. We can pay more than that but we are a bit frugal when it comes to airfare so now I will be checking prices every day, 5 times or more a day until i find what we are looking for.

This just in! We are NOT missing Playa! New dates: Feb 15-Feb 24
