La Borrega was still open about a month ago. I have not been by there lately unfortunately. Their barbacoa is excellent! I know I have a picture of their menu around here somewhere. Let me dig around for it.

We stopped by there a month or so ago just to try some shrimp tacos (they were so-so, we should have gone with the barbacoa), and we ended up chatting with the guy who worked the outside counter--I think his name was Carlos--who said he used to work at La Pesca & was the INVENTOR of the cazuela de camarones recipe! We of course told him that was our favorite dish.

Small town, huh?

I love the barbacoa there!! My favorite dish ever in Mexico.

In Chiapis this trip we saw sooo many barbacoa de borrego's.....we were very tempted to stop at one or two, but I was worried I might get barbacoa de cabeza and not know it.

A favorite dish of mine has allowed for a hint of Caribbean flavor, especially in the presentation, in the last few years, which was added from a San Francisco adaptation, but oddly enough, was a Nebraska incarnation, of all places.

...and I've been told, a bit of what could best be described as Detroit All-Spice has been known to sneak into the melange, on occasion.

Thank you for turning us on to this lovely concoction. Mmmm... I remember you talking about it when this restaurant was brand new.
Wish I had this recipe and Jose's recipe for margaritas too.

I found my pictures of the menus and uploaded them to the La Borrega page. Here's a pic of our lamb barbacoa tacos. They were really good!
