Hi everyone,
I've only recently talked to John about letting you know that I've decided I couldn't live any other way but by leaving Geofish. So here it is. Some of you know how hard I fought to set it up, initially with the help of my partner Steve Regalado and then with two other partners, JJ and Micky. Things didn't work out (for reasons that many of you know) and only Steve and I remained. Things went pear-shaped again despite the arrival of Steve's sons, Morgan and Maxden - and all their efforts and excellent work - so I decided enough is enough and for the sake of the reputation I painstakingly built with the help of so many amazing students and certified divers, my integrity and my sanity I decided to leave the partnership. In the end, I believe these are more important than trying to have my voice heard against so many disastrous administrative decisions because it will be our clients who'll ultimately pay the price. My personal opinion, I know, but I live by it as always: still, I heartily wish I'm proved wrong and changes will be made as soon as possible. Luckily or unluckily, it took the fact of announcing my departure for some - few - to start being discussed with a view to being implemented. However, the main issue was one of trust, and that will remain where it should be: in private and on a need-to-know basis. I'm sure you understand that. And please don't take my word for it, there are always two sides - or more - to a story - and you'd be doing yourselves a great disservice as diving clients by not checking out the Geofish I sadly leave behind for yourselves. So, here's to the future! I will continue doing what I love (and I'm not doing it for the money, believe you me...) on a freelance basis, most probably from a deluxe bodega on the beach and using boats rented daily (I recently found out that the Geofish boat's new ownership documentation doesn't reflect my share thanks to a deal done without my knowledge, so I can't use it in tandem with Geofish). I will avoid mixing my divers within other dive shop's bigger groups, that would defeat my long term objective of providing personalised scuba services and training for small groups. I will be leaving on the 31st August, by then I should have finished Morgan's and Maxden's Divemaster training. Thanks to all of you who helped me get where I stand today, it's been an honour and a great pleasure! Paulo Maçarico PADI OWSI 632964
