Sorry about that! Playa Maya has had a very loyal group who book the entire place for most of February ever since they opened, I think. ryberg can offer the full story if he wants to.

We managed to squeeze in our two weeks at the end of their stay 4 years ago and we have reserved for the following year while on site each year since. It seems to be the only way. As dates have shifted over the years, we have always been able to juggle our future plans and those of the aforementioned group to everyone's satisfaction while some of them were still at the hotel.

We checked on reservations more than a year in advance and the regulars do get first chance on the rooms. I have no problems with that - just disappointed. We can only go a certain time of year so that limits us for staying at the Playa Maya. We are hoping we'll get there some day it looks wonderful!

I'm one of the returning guests - I don't think we get preferential treatment other than we have received a "returning guest discount" on the room rate. It's just that once I leave Playa, I'm thinking about how fast I can get back, and usually book about 10 months in advance. From some of the people we've talked to, they do return year after year the same week(s) and book accordingly in advance.

You must be one of the Michiganders. I have heard that when you get done staying that most book for the next year right away. Can't disagree with Steve taking your reservations. Repeat customers that commit to stay a year in advance is a very good thing. Personally, I don't like to book that far in advance. And I think it is kind of cool to go to the Playa Maya for lunch and recognize some of the same faces that I had seen from years past. Playa Maya is a very nice hotel.

I love that they have pads for the sun loungers.
It will be nice to stay beachfront for the first time.

We will miss the Luna Blue very much though.
And mostly running into T&C throughout the day.
