Default reasons why i like low season

channeling my optimism here
i can always get a taxi
i can get a table at my favorite cafe, shasta cafe
5th and the beach are way less crowded
i hear 'i miss the old playa' a lot less
hmmm, that can't be all...

ha ha!

I like being able to drive from one end of town to the other in less than 10 minutes. And, when not driving, I like the lack of cars on the road, which means I can cross the street without hearing the Frogger video game music running through my head.

I'm sure there are plenty more...

I like knowing there will be a prime spot on the beach with chairs and umbrella.

Less cabs trying to run over while crossing 10th.

lower hotel prices

less drama.

We love low season, most of the kids are gone so it is pretty easy finding a place at the beach. We get to spend more time with the friends we have made at different places because they don't have to run away to look after others (I know it's their job) I still find 5th pretty crowded even up until June but I love to people watch and at night that is the thing to do. And yes the weather is hotter and the water warmer what more can you ask for.

Low season is OK for those of us who make the same amount of money, year round. For the rest (the majority), it sucks. This low season, especially, has been hard on Playa. Hotel occupancy rates at 20%, in some of the bigger AI's, means a lot of people are laid off or sent on "vacation." Crime goes up. The small percent of slimeballs that call this place home, come out, in force. So-called friends stab each other in the back, trying to get that little bit of $ that is left. Tempers are short.

On the other hand, there are some good deals to be had. We went to Xcaret, the other day, for free.

I was just commenting last week that the city looked cleaner and someone said it's probably because of the low season. Still...low season sucks for the economy in Playa. I better start saving my money

I always said I wouldn't go in low season only because of hurricanes but I might be changing my mind. It's cheaper.

PlayaDelSoul: How did you get into Xcaret for free?

I'm going to be visiting at the end of the month and am interested in going.

PlayaDelSoul lives in Playa del Carmen and probably got free admission through a friend who works there or some other connection to Xcaret. All locals get a nice discount for Xcaret & Xel-Ha tickets with proof of residence. But I've never heard of any discounts for visitors. Sorry!

My aunt and uncle live in Playa Del Carmen so we may be able to obtain free or discounted tickets through them. Does anyone know how locals get them?
Thanks in advance!

You can get the discounted Xcaret tickets with an FM-3 or driver's license. The id must have an address located in Quintana Roo. You can purchase the tickets at Xcaret or ahead of time through the Naturama travel agency on 5th Avenue. I believe they are between Calle 4 & 6.
