Default Suggestions for EP hotels

We've been home for a week yesterday and I am already looking at dates and places for a return in Februrary. *Hmm addict anyone?

Anyway, we're looking at going for two weeks, with the first week at an EP hotel in Playa. We want to get out, explore, do things the first week and cannot see the cost effectiveness of paying for an AI the first week.

I am looking for suggestions of hotels. I don't want something that is going to run me $300 a night. For that price I could stay at the Gran Porto Real. I am looking for cheap (Yes I know it's high season, cheap is relative) and clean. The hotel doesn't have to be luxury, bells and whistles. A clean bed, a good shower and if they have coffee in the morning that's a bonus. We want to be able to walk to the beach, walk to bars, walk to shops etc but since we are going for a lower price point, it doesn't have to be beachfront.

Thanks for any help.

I guess I am not familiar with the term EP?

Based on what you described, sounds like the Luna Blue would be a perfect place to stay...

EP=European Plan..as in not an All Inclusive resort.

And yep, we are definately looking at Luna Blue. Just looking for other suggestions as well.

Living here, and having stayed in few hotels (AIs, as a treat for me and the family), I have always been reluctant to recommend lodging to people who ask, even if my bestest of friends happen to own it. Well, I finally did spend a night at the Luna Blue (on my wife's birthday), and it was as advertised. Absolutely wonderful. Quiet yet close to everything. Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. The garden is as tranquil a setting as you will find, in town. The bar is a nice place to sit (or swing) and the owners go out of their way to make sure you are "right" with the world.

So, as you can see, I recommend the Luna Blue. I can do so, now, because I have actually stayed there.

Our preferred hotel is the Luna Blue. It is located in the quieter north end of 5th Avenue, which we love and you are 5 minutes walking distance from all the action. There are many restaurants to choose from, as with bars and shopping in the north end also.

The Luna Blue staff is wonderful and helpful and the owners, Tony & Cheri will go beyond their call of duty to make sure that you have a wonderful stay.

A decent size fridge is provided in your room, along with purified water, beach towels, plus daily beach passes to Mamita's Beach Club. This pass entitles you to a palapa & 2 beach loungers.

Coffee and coffee makers are not provided unless you stay in a kitchenette suite. You are just a couple of steps away from restaurants, though. I like to bring my '1 cup coffee maker' and coffee just so I can have my first cup as soon as I get out of bed while I linger on our balcony to admire Luna Blue's beautiful and lush courtyard.

We highly recommend Luna Blue.

Thanks for all the great comments about our hotel. Makes us swell up with pride

Just wanted to note, Meg, that whether you stay at Luna Blue or anywhere else, February is probably the busiest month of the year, so the sooner you can book, the better. We're already 60% booked for February, and it's five months away. People really plan ahead of time for high season.

I can also suggest Fusion Hotel - I loved it there, right on the beach, reasonably priced (I think we paid around $80 per night - but that was 2 years ago). They have a restaraunt and bar right there, walking distance to everything.

(I haven't stayed at Luna Blue yet, but hopefully if my husband and I ever make it back with out the kids, that place is #1 on out list!)

Then send me the pricing!

Seriously though, we are looking at Luna Blue and have only read good things about the hotel all over the web. But I like to shop around. Can't blame a girl for that can you?

We plan to stay 5 nights at Mimi del Mar in February. Haven't stayed there yet, but here great things about it, and it is right on the beach, and a reasonable price. Includes breakfast, if you book through their web site.

I loved La Tortuga. We stayed off-season and don't know how pricey it is during peak times.

Another vote for the Luna Blue. Great place to stay. Close to 5th., a short walk to Mamitas and Kool. Owners and staff that are great. One of the top rated small hotesl in Playa.
