Free Beer while we clean up the dog runs at the Pet Shelter.

We have tentative plans to be on Isla that weekend, but I'll let you know for sure as soon as I can. Let me know if you can use extra rakes, shovels etc... I am happy to lend what we have.

Last time we were there in September, it was pick the tics day. My husband will be pleased with the free beer though!

I will be there to give you a hand. No tools but my hands work well. If I work up a good sweat then that free beer will go down well.

Sorry, Andy, but I have to bow out. Cancel the Fanta order. I have to get my gallbladder out, on Wednesday, followed by a week of "rest". Doubt I am going to be of much help.

On the good news front, I will be by to pick up El Mistico, as soon as I recover.

Well, I woke up today, sick as a dog (no humor intended) and can't possibly make it to the clean up event. I hope someone will take pictures!!

What a great success!! Thank you to all who came and helped out! It was very much appreciated!

Monday the small gravel will be delivered, so no dog wash this Saturday again. Instead we will be moving the gravel onto the dog runs that we cleared.

We are asking for any wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes to be dropped off for the day (or pm Andy and Jen and they may be able to pick them up).

Please let us know if you will be able to come and help.

Oh my ....what a fun day it was!!! Can't wait for the next job!!! ....gravel spreading!!....sounds like great exercise! We are in!!! I really loved the way the group bonded last week!

If you're in town (Saturday, Jan. 31st) please join us. It's a little hard work, but a guaranteed good time!

Sorry I'm late on this over here
Here's two successive posts detailing the progress:

It was a great day at the shelter
A great turnout...and what a bunch of hard workers!!
It was a day to pick weeds, rubbish and move mammoth rocks (and stray poop here and there
And drink beer...and eat





And the food...chicken wings and sloppy joes and chips and brownies and cupcakes!! Thanks Monica!!!!


Now....what happens when you eat in front of 72 dogs? Look for a safe spot. This was my view

And some just did the best they could

The result? Pristine, weed free, poop free (well...for about 10 minutes) property.




Next week? We move tons and tons of gravel.
More on that later.

So as not to jinx ourselves, I will only say that we got an incredible offer today from an incredible (and credible) person.
More on that later, too.

Andy wrote about this before, but there is a new sweet arrival at the shelter.

Update - Monday

We have the vouchers for the gravel - oh..it's free BTW!
Thank you Siobhan at Ak Lu'um International School!!!
We have 7 vouchers, each good for a large dumptruck load.
That's A LOT of gravel.
We found a large loader (bulldozer with a bucket) for a very reasonable price.
We have to go tomorrow morning to arrange for the transport of the gravel, of which we are also getting a very nice discount.

We got a lot done today. Jen has hot water

I hope to have good news tomorrow that we have close to 70 cubic meters of gravel on site
That's about 27 tons of gravel

HAVING TO BE MOVED WITH A WHEELBARROW!!!!


Any locals with a wheelbarrow - please PM me or Andy&Jen and we will be happy to pick it up. Sorry, we can't guarantee that it will be returned in like-new condition.

For those who don't know, Lenny is another Peanut Pet Shelter rescue.

We now have a definate 3 wheelbarrows (Thanks Maureen & Joe) to move the mountains of sand/gravel that has been delivered but i think we will need more and as many shovels..rakes and strong backs as we can get , it will be a lot of work but the end result will be fantastic

Are there drop in opportunities to volunteer at the shelter? I am planning on being down there in the summer and I would love to spend some time on the weekends helping out! Do I just keep an eye out for postings like this or can I just stop by and see if I can help?
