Thumbs up Google Street View comes to Playa del Carmen and Cancún

August 2010: Google Street View is now available for Playa del Carmen and other cities in the Riviera Maya, on the In The Roo Interactive Map. Click for more information.

Original Post:
Google Maps goes to Mexico

Google's Street view is now available for Playa del Carmen and Cancún!!

Quote:
Also exciting for Mexican residents and tourists is the launch of Street View, which, when it goes live on Monday, November 9, will mark the first time a Latin American country will be able to enjoy this feature. Street View will initially be available in seven cities--Monterrey, Guadalajara, Ciudad de México, Puerto Vallarta, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Cancún--though, knowing Google, we can expect that list to expand very soon.
I will work on adding this functionality to the In The Roo maps of Playa del Carmen and Cancún as soon as I can. Until then, you can access the street view on Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/). To access the street view, drag the orange colored stick person onto the map where you'd like to zoom into street level.

Here's what PG's Sandbox looks like on Street View:

Greatness.

I could see all the way down to the Azul Fives.

I love this new street walking ...I can see Chris and Carrie going to work. I know they block out the faces but I would know them anywhere...

Thanks John! This is one of the many reasons I keep coming back to check out your site. Taking a "stroll" down one of Playas streets while at my computer here in northern Minnesota seems to make the cold weather feel a little warmer.

Thanks John, saw your thread on Tuesday. Now spending way too many hours going up and down the streets of PDC and Coz (we have relatives there and sent them a G.E. pic of their house).

Thanks Scubadewd. Been a member for a year but only drop in once in a while to see what's happening. We're heading to Riu Palace Mexico in couple of weeks for 7th visit, weeks 12 and 13, so generally just check to see if any questions on the Rius that I can help answer.
This will be kind of exciting trip for us this year as our daughter who lives 500 miles from us, will be visiting PDC for first time (she's spent weeks and months at a time in Mazatlan in the past) while we're there but she's staying downtown in a small hotel. Will get to see her couple times before she heads for home. Then again at Christmas as we do the 11 - 12 hour drive through the mountains.

Sounds like great opportunities for family and fun! I'm so glad that you are able to share Playa with her.

I was just discussing this with someone else earlier today. I want to spend some time walking up and down 10th Avenue and determine a general timeframe of when the photos were taken, based upon restaurants that are present/not present. Actually, I'd love to do 5th Avenue, but I guess the Google team wasn't able to drive there.

Have fun on your upcoming trip. It's always a treat to show someone around Playa for the first time.

On my "virtual walks", I'm seeing lots of street-level billboards and posters for Semana Santa. Of course that could mean Mid-March until well past Easter Weekend, given the staying power inherent in that form of media...since they don't change them out until the next round of sales or production rotations are finished and put in place...

The corner of ave 10 and calle 44

It's after April 1 because I see my grill on the second floor balcony and it's before mid-June because there is no outside construction on the Italian Chicas restaurant on the first floor.

I was "walking" thru Cancun today and saw banners for the Stanley Cup finals between Detroit and Pittsburgh. That would be the first week of June.
