Default Info on Hotel Maya Turquesa?

Does anyone have any info on Hotel Maya Turquesa? I found a good price online thru booking.com around new years high season. Cannot find hardly anything on it online. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Beth, their website says it's disactivated. I stayed at this hotel when it was brand new, ten years or so ago. It's still a fairly new place. And I've stayed there a few times over the years. The rooms are comfortable, with all the basic amenities, and they have a couple of rooms with kitchenettes. But most of the rooms are interior with no view. The location's convenient, between Wal Mart and 5th Ave. I like the place, especially for the price, but my wife stayed there without me in 2008 and she didn't like it that much...there were a lot of Mexican nationals there and some of them were too noisy and boisterous.

EDIT: A comparable hotel that I like a little better is the Hacienda Maria Bonita. It's a little further from 5th Ave. but it's a very cool place, IMHO. They were advertising some great specials the last time I checked and their rates include breakfast. There are photos and a little info on this hotel in my June 2008 TR.

This page has some interior photos of the Maya Turquesa, and here's my pic of the exterior of the hotel:

Thanks so much Dan-o. I could not find any info on it! It appears they have rooms as affordable as $45 US during my stay during high season beg. of January. Price, location, a/c rooms and a pool to dip in are attractive to me. Price espeically- to help offset the high air air this year. Due to the lack of info online info on the place, I did take into consideration that many Mexicans may be staying there celebrating the holidays (isnt there a holiday on Jan. 6th?) and did take noise as a factor.

I looked at several sites for Hacienda Maria Bonita and cannot find anything under the $60 range- although I belive most sites reported a breakfast included. Do you know what they offer for breakfast? If its a nice spread that makes the decision easier. Reviews say Maria Bonita's rooms smell musty. Several trip advisor reports make this comment. Do you have issues with that smell? I seem to encounter a musty smell where-ever I stay in Mexico, I think its due to the nature of the moist jungle and sea- it never bothers me though.

Im having difficulty finding a budget hotel (anything $50 and under) for my stay. After 2 days of extensive searching, I found that time of the year -
$70-$80 a night is the new $40-$50! I was surprised how many (mostly budget) hotels are actually booked up! I realize it is high season, but I even thought about walking around upon my arrival and trying to bargin a deal with places who have availability. Do you feel that is too risky (having no reservation) given the time of the year?

I think you would like the Maya Turquesa just fine, especially for that price. The noise thing I mentioned could have been just an isolated incident, I wouldn’t worry about it at all or whether they’re noisy people there- I just mentioned that because I haven’t stayed there in a few years so I’m not sure what kind of clientele the hotel attracts. It's sure hard to beat it for the price, so I wouldn't have any qualms about reserving it. I like the location too, there's an Internet cafe right next door and it's just a couple of blocks or so from both Wal Mart or 5th Ave. I don't think the rooms at Maria Bonita are any better than the MT, the only things that are any better at the former are the big pool they have and the interior courtyard.

When I stayed at Maria Bonita in 2008 they gave you a coupon for breakfast at the little restaurant that’s attached to the hotel. It was a hot breakfast (eggs & toast or chilaquiles) that comes with coffee and/or juice. The hotel was under construction and my wife did notice the musty smell, but my nose isn’t that sensitive and it didn’t bother me. Like you, I guess I’m used to that musty smell, especially combined with Playa’s humidity and the fact that most hotels’ rooms are cooled with a mini-split a/c and are really not ventilated that well.

I would want to have a reservation at least for the first night. But, having said that, I’ve found that most hotels' online rates are slightly higher than the rate you can negotiate if you walk in with cash-in-hand. Of course, you run the risk of not getting a room, but I've always found something. Have you looked at the Hotel Alux, Mom’s Hotel, or the Maya Bric? They all get good reviews for hotels in their price range. But, I think you would like the Maya Turquesa as well as any of them.

Wow, thanks so much for your help Dan-o! Referring to the above quote...so you feel that MB has a big pool and courtyard. According to the interior photos from the link you sent me it appears MT has a pool in the photos- is that just misleading, does MT indeed have a pool? We always enjoy dipping in the hotel pools after walking around. I have to agree MB does look like my style from the photos, very Playesque.

Yes, emailed Alux, Moms and Maya Bric (among many more). Alux and MB are full. Moms does have a room for $55, yet its a few blocks further than MT or MB. Yebo also just emailed me, they have a studio available, yet kinda want to expand my horizons, but thankful its an option. So right now, I have a few choices in the $45-$60 range.

Hi Beth...up until last year, Gary and I had never booked a hotel until we actually arrived in Playa and we never seemed to have a problem finding a room. Last year we noticed on 30th Ave. just down passed Mom's Hotel towards Juarez, on the right side of the street was a small hotel...looked great from the outside and Brenda and I actually walked into the reception area. It was nice and clean but we had a language problem...however...the rooms were 200 pesos a night..and just walking around we found several small hotels that looked awesome for great prices. I think you have lots of options. Too bad we will miss you again this year!!

Yes, the MT does have a pool. But, I think the photo of MT's pool may be a little misleading. It's a very small interior pool and I don't think it gets much sunlight. It doesn't compare with the MB's. And, frankly, I would be a little concerned at the MT's lack of a website or online info. It might be indicative of problems with management. They could be in transition, too. But they've been in business for a long time now, they should have at least a basic website with contact info. I like the MT's rooms & location, though.

Nancy,
Hola amiga!
Im so sick of missing you. We must meet up again one of these trips!

We're doing the 4 night/5 day thing- not long enough! I am debating walking around but dont want to spend a lot of time doing it. Christmas, New years up till the 2nd week in January are extremely high season, I hear its even more so than spring break, since there are many Mexicans traveling that time of year. Many hotels charge more than high season prices during these weeks- some doubling their high season prices. With Scotts school shedule, we have no choice but to go at that time. I emailed Hotel Posada Muralla, a place u recommended awhile back, there prices are $75 during our stay. Hotel 2 Hermanos is a great consideration- thanks! . I remember you said they have no a/c, its something that I like to have, but Im sure I could live w/out in January.

Dan-o
MT went up in price when I went to book it. $65 a night was above our cheap budget. MS is a little over our price range too. I will have to check it out this summer when its in our budget, I've been eyeing that place for awhile!

I booked at Colores Mexicano- $30 a night- looks basic, yet clean.
