Default Beach restoration

Is there anyone there that can confirm if the beach restoration has begun? I have noticed on the Playa Palms webcam it looks like some pipes are heading out to sea, and on the Grand porto webcam ther is a caterpiller moving sand around.

I will try to get some photos tomorrow - hopefully it'll be sunny and warm, unlike today.

Here are some pictures of the beach restoration in Playa del Carmen, today, Sunday, January 10, 2010.

Although it was a Sunday, there were plenty of workers out doing surveys and other work related to the restoration project.

Looking South from the pier at Constituyentes:

Looking North from the pier at Constituyentes, there is a fair amount of beach heading up North:

Jurgen, from Mom's Bar (fan page on Facebook), took some pictures of the beach restoration yesterday at Zenzi Beach. Here are a few of the photos, re-posted with permission.

That wasn't taken from Zenzi. It looks like Jurgen was at El Faro when he took that picture. Nice view.

I was in Cancun around a month ago and they were working on the beach reconstruction then - same deal with the 1meter diameter pipeline pumping a mix of sand and water from the offshore boat.

It added around 200feet of beach (or more) to the part of Cancun beach that i was at. The only problem is that around a week ago when i went back i took some more pictures and the sea had already begun eroding the new layers of sand. As the new sand is highly compacted together it resulted in sand-cliffs around 8 feet high ! Hopefully this won't happen here after the beach reconstruction has finished.

Take a look at these shots of Cancun beach from around a week or two ago. This was about 2 or 3 weeks AFTER the beach reconstruction there had been completed :

The work is supposed to take 2-3 weeks. I don't know what the official start date was, but I believe they've been working on it for about a week or so.

Thanks Libby! How are the beach bars doing? We will back for our 4th year in a row. A month this time starting Feb. 1. Sounds like pretty good timing.

Default Live report of Playa's beach closing...Do not miss this!

The main beach of Playa del Carmen, Mexico has and will be closed for all people and boats for a few more days. This news report shows a hired Dutch company extending the beacxh up 60ft in some places thus giving Playa peeps alot more beach to enjoy. Have a look here and see how they do it.

Can they keep all the boats from the beach forever?

Do you know why they chose a dutch company? Is the skillset available in MX or was it cheaper from the Dutch?

The Dutch...actually Belgian (Jan de Nul) have the equipment but they are in partnership with their Mexican subsidiary (Dragados)

In cancun the beach was extended up to about 200feet. I'm not sure it will be that wide here, but i've a feeling it may be quite a bit more than 60feet, just judging on what happened in cancun.
