Default Cheap flight to Cancun??

http://www.spiritair.com/welcome.aspx

Spirit Airlines is having a promotional fare sale...they're calling it Super Tuesday. Anyway, I just booked our flights to Mexico...$99/each way. So, it's $638 round-trip for the two of us together. Last year we flew to Mexico for $88/each way...the price of both of our round trip tickets was STILL cheaper than one round trip ticket with the airline we usually go with.

Not sure if any of you can take advantage of Spirit's offer (it's for travel on Tuesdays only), but if they do fly out of an airport near you it's worth checking out.

Default Air Fare

I was able to find cheap air far with Mexicana.
I just got back - my airfare was only $260 with taxes. They are much better then the American airlines. They had free meals and liquor. I would fly with them again

I just love how these american airlines advertise...

" Just $99!! each way "

Why say it that way? Of course you need the return trip home...you can't walk home. It's good advertising, I'll give them that. Makes it seem like you're getting a great deal.

They do similar things up here. They say "Get away to Mexico for just $299!! plus taxes and fees" and the taxes and fees are about $400.

This is why I prefer to use Travelocity to search for flights. The prices they display are always in Canadian $$ and always include all taxes and fees, no hidden charges, no charges for baggage, no charges for peanuts, no charges for using the washroom, or whatever.

All those extra charges for very true. I think with Spirt you pay to check your bag.

Hi Pbekas23, what airport did you fly out of if you don't mind my asking? That is a great price! We are leaving next week and paid waaaaaaaayy more than that, but it's difficult to find cheap airfare coming from the west coast. I am already thinking about our vacation NEXT year though and will start watching for the airfare deals soon. (It's good to have goals, right?).

I hear ya, girl...I've checked Travelocity before, but for the money, it's actually cheaper for us to fly with Spirit out of Washington DC than it is to catch a flight locally. But, it almost always seems like luck of the draw when it comes to airfare...you never know when you're gonna get that great deal...or with who.

Yes, you do pay to check your bag with Spirit...done in advance I think it's $5 and at the airport it is $10.

We flew with Spirit for the first time last year and are flying with them again this year. We're not disappointed and it's much cheaper than flying with US Air like we normally do.

Thanks for the link...I bookmarked it. I checked the dates for our trip and it's $382/pp before taxes for the round trip.

Another place to find cheap airfare is ITA matrix
although you will want to book though the airlines... tends to be 10 - 20 cheaper b/c you are not paying the fees.

Yes, we are flying out of DC at Reagan National. The drive isn't too bad...my parents live in Fredericksburg so I'm used to the 2.5 hours it takes to get there. Total driving time is just under 4 hours...and that's being generous and allowing for traffic on the Beltway.
