Actually, it can work backwards of this.

If you know the zone fares, you just get in, tell him where you are going, and pay the fare when you get out according to the chart. No asking, no giving him a chance to up the fare price. I found when we lived there we did this and saved a lot in taxi fares, versus when we would vacation there and just ask before getting in.

Louise, I know that Laura's maps have an updated fee schdule for the taxis.

That's how we also do it Leasa, unless we are travelling outside our regular zones, then we will ask what the fare is. I don't have an updated Mapchick Map but I will try to get one at the Luna Blue when we are there. I think that T&C still sell them?

I was just wondering if the rate was still at 12-14P around town. I think that is what we were paying last year? I forget already.

Pbekas23, you are right about not needing a taxi most of the time. However, this time we will be travelling with someone who has back problems and will not be able to walk as much as hubby & I usually do.

I could see why you would want a taxi then... when i went down I had my own driver. He was free… thanks John

Ginger, I never thought of it this way, good suggestion.

Hey girlfriend. Are you hugging any coconuts these days?

Thanks, this chart really helps. Hope to see you around in a couple of weeks.

I have lived here for five months and have learned (rather quickly) that if you ask it is rarely the same price twice! I also learned that if you get one of the parked taxi's you automatically are charged an extra 20 peso. I agree that walking up to 10th is easier and reduces the fare. It is easiest if you know the rates and then just hand the driver the money. Enjoy your stay!

Kirbyfan...the rates are per vehicle. You will pay that fare whether you are 1 or 4 persons in the cab.

Ok wow thanks those are pretty reasonable rates if you ask me!

We rarely every take a cab anywhere for some reason. We either walk or take a collectivo...or bus...or ferry
