Default Hotel Choice

I am returning to PDC after a 5 year hiatus. I am staying at La Tortuga for the first two nights and then at Luna Blue from March 8-13. From all the comments, I feel I can congratulate myself on at least one of my choices, but does anyone have any comments on La Tortuga?

Also, is it typically a better deal to pay for items with a credit card or to keep going to a cash machine? Where do you get the better exchange rate?

Thank you for your help!

I have always got a good rate at the ATM machines. I have never used my credit card there, so I don't know.

I checked out Tortuga last time I was down, it is really nice in there. I don't think you will be disappointed with either choice. I think you made good choices on both hotels, although I am partial to the LB!

Have fun!

You have picked two great places to stay,we love the Luna Blue . We find it is much easier to use the ATM machines because not everyone takes a credit card. ATM's are easy to find and you only have to take out what you need. I just let my bank know that I am going to Mexico so they are aware, and we usually get some pesos just to get us by for the first few days.Have a great vacation and be prepaired for how much Playa has changed. But it still is the best place to vacation in Mexico.

We will see you at the LB we are there from the 4-11

We exhange our money when we get into town after scouting out the best rates.....then we hit the ATMs...........be sure to let your bank know ahead of time, if thats what you decide to do.

We stayed at La Tortuga last August and loved loved loved it. Stayed in both a swim-up room and a standard room, both were impeccably clean and the beds were quite comfy. Standard room was a great value and the swim up room was a treat. The pool & bar is a haven after spending your day soaking up the sun (and heat) on the beach or on a tour somewhere and it is so beautiful when lit up in the evenings. The staff was top notch. The included breakfast was actually a full, take your pick from the menu breakfast...not just the standard roll, toast and jelly. We plan on staying there again this coming summer. I think you made two fantastic choices!

Many U.S. credit card companies charge a foreign transaction fee. However, if you have one of the few cards that don't (Capital One for example), then you'll enjoy a great exchange rate. However, as PlayaLove pointed out, many places in town don't accept credit cards. And a few places (particularly hotels) will even charge you a transaction fee for using credit, or give you a discount for using cash, depending on how you look at it.
