Still trying. . . . Still trying. Yep, I can see it. The reading glasses are a dead giveaway. Trying to imagine Tony arguing with a judge. Yep, no imagination required How hard was that. |

It rained last night for a couple of hours, but when we woke up this morning it was sunny, dry and warm. So of course we headed for the beach. We looked around for John but he was nowhere to be found.
It was sunny with some high scattered clouds today, about 80 degrees with a soft wind and very small, gentle waves rolling in. The water was warm, and we bobbed for awhile watching the early morning crowd roll in. We were serenaded by a woman who waded out waist deep in the water and began to sing opera very loudly. She stared straight ahead out into the ocean and just let it rip. Somewhere in her mind she was hearing applause and calls for an encore. After leaving the water, she headed down the beach, continuing her aria. We bobbed for awhile in the absolutely crystal clear water and wondered aloud what MikeW was doing this morning. The good news is that they are now finally beginning to pave the street between First Avenue and Mamitas! It has been a swampy pothole-filled dirt road for years now. The road to the beach is now blocked by 16 pallets of cobblestones. The road itself has been graded and smoothed, so we expect that they'll be finishing it up in the next couple of days. But don't hold your breath. This is Mexico. And as we walked back to the house, we were reminded once again that in spite of all the construction and modern building going on, Playa is still in many ways a pueblo in the middle of the jungle. We thought of this as we came across a large iguana sleeping in the morning sun in the middle of the sidewalk. We walked around him to avoid disturbing his rest. Hasta manana.

Thanks for keeping up with the beach reports! Now I can crank up the heater close my eyes and pretend I'm there! My husband is getting tired of me laying next to fireplace spread out on a beach shouting "uno la cerveza pronto!" he rolls his eyes at me and I follow up with a sheepish "por favor"

Some people call it computer programming, but it's more like a puzzle, I enjoy it. I usually do that for a couple of hours soon after I wake up and before I leave for the office. Yeah, I go to the office now, but the view isn't too bad from my office. Oh yeah, it's sunny and about 80F today. The beach is about 8 miles away, I got to get there more often. |

Ever been to one of those big Vegas hotels with a giant swimming pool, a fake beach and bright blue water? That is what our Caribbean was like this morning! Virtually no wind, crystal clear water, very soft gentle waves. Wow. What a perfect day. Accuweather says the temp is 77 with a "real feel" of 95. Wish this was our day off!
The road to Mamita's looks the same as it did over a week ago. The cobblestone pavers are still piled up at the top of the road (eliminating the vast majority of traffic, since most people don't seem to know the shortcut road in), and no road has been started. Es Mexico! Hasta luego!

We finally got back to the beach! Sorry it took so long. We've been a little busy lately.
This morning the surprising thing at Mamitas Beach Club was on the sand not in the water...no people. With the high point of the Easter/Spring Break season now past, the crowds have thinned out somewhat. For the past few weeks Mamitas has been almost full by 8:30 in the morning! Today there were only four or five people on the sand when we got there around 8 a.m. and not many more when we left a half an hour later. The beach was beautiful of course. The sky was clear and we could see all the way to where the cruise ships were docked at Cozumel. It was breezy but the waves were gentle. During the night a large sand bar developed along the water's edge and was littered with small shells. Another day in paradise. Oh, and this being Mexico, there has been no progress on paving the road. The street is still blocked off, and the paving bricks are still piled up at one end. Maybe manana.

It looks like Spring Break is officially over. We were at Playa Norte (in front of Mamitas and Kool) this morning between 8 and 9 a.m. and we saw only a dozen or so people. Most of the beach chairs were still empty and unclaimed.
The beach was clean having just been swept. The sand bar is still in place allowing an easy walk into the sea. There was a gentle breeze and the blue green water was calm with very small waves. As we floated in the water we saw one pelican, three thongs (one topless) and one very overweight gentleman in a speedo. This morning we stopped on the Mamitas deck to put on our sandals and noticed the display case offering items for sale. Among the hats and suntan lotion were two things that made us laugh. One was a CD of the "music" (we call it "thump thump") played by the DJ at Mamitas Lounge. We wondered who would want to listen to that if they didn't have to? And we saw a display of disposable psychadelic colored speedos for the man who arrives at the beach with a fearless attitude and nothing to wear! We laughed all the way home. Hasta luego!
